does vitamin c powder actually work to fade hair dye??

i dyed my hair too dark by accident i was going for my natural brown hair and i left it on for too long and it’s almost black. i’ve read a lot of good reviews about mixing vitamin c powder with anti dandruff shampoo and leaving it in your hair for 30-60 mins but does anyone know if this is legit and if possible some before and after pics?? thank you

Definitely worked for me - I've done it twice!
I usually dye my light brown hair a copper colour. Once it turned burgundy and the vit c reduced it by several shades. Another time it turned neon red and again used the vit c for at least an hour and it toned it right down. Sorry i don't have any pics though.
Another benefit is how clean my scalp felt afterwards!!!

I used it on a Semi P dye ( I used a mahogany which turned my hair purple/pink on the greys Shock )

I used 30 tablets and a squeeze of some Superdrug dandruff shampoo, left it a good few hours. No colour came out when I rinsed it or on the towel (bum I thought) but by the time I'd washed it in the morning, drove DD to college , got home (hair now dry) ..it was brown again Grin

No damage done thankfully and far nicer than the thought of ColourB4.

There are photos someone on a thread ( untouched)

how long would you recommend leaving it on for. my dye was permanent and my hair is pretty much black wanting to go brown

Yep , I always use permanent hair dyes. I usually leave the mix on for at least an hour , hair wrapped in cling film then a warm towel because I read that the heat helps the process. However I dye my hair a lot so have quite a build up of colour. You might want to start with half an hour and see how that goes?
