I have had long hair for my entire life. I’d like a low maintenance, stylish cut. I just want to look good.

I’ve got lots of hair (like hair dressers tell me how much hair I have when they dry it). It’s wavy, possibly would be curly if it were shorter but the weight and length pulls it straighter. At the moment it’s mid back length. I’ve asked hairdresser for suggestions but they tend to always just suggest long layers or a fringe.

I’ve been told I look a bit like Sophie Dahl (the older Sophie not the modelling days Sophie). I’m mid 30’s. Help me banish the boring ponytails and buns!

Your hair texture sounds exactly like mine - mine is also long right now but I’m considering cutting it shorter too.

From the sounds of it you’d really suit a long bob or shoulder length cut - something quite blunt that looks good curly, wavy or straight and is just long enough that you can tie it up when needed. Anything shorter usually involves more daily styling so isn’t really as low maintenance as you might think. With a similar face shape to Sophie Dahl you could also consider a fringe as she really suits one.

I have hair like yours and I got it cut into a blunt cut (ie no layers, layers are awful and hairdressers should never tell us girls with curls to go for them) bob between shoulders and chin (I actually went shorter after to just below chin and I adore it)

It is slightly shorter at the back - I adore it - its the best cut Ive ever had - wash and go. Also I can blast with a dryer for 5 mins if I am dashing to a meeting. I always look well groomed and the curls are cute.

And there is so much versatility and I look years younger!

I don't know how to post pictures but there is one of the Olsen twins who had the style but different lengths each side (mine is the same length each side) and I think Jennifer Lawrence had it and the girlfriend of the guy who won the Bafta for Bohemian Rhapsody

I’m intrigued by the idea of shorter in the back.

Yes I love it because it means it is quick to dry but there is still plenty of hair and also my face doesn’t suit short hair
