Black tie event -this Friday, please help!

I've been invited to a black event on Friday and have nothing suitable to wear (I only found out it was black tie this afternoon)
I can shop tomorrow, but my budget is less than £50 for the whole outfit, including shoes (I'm trying to lose weight, so definitely don't want to spend loads for a dress I'll hopefully grow out of in a month)

I am an Apple shaped size 16 in my 30s
I've never gone to a black tie event so I don't even know what type of dress is suitable.
Please help!

I have a Debenhams, M&S, TKmax, New look, and H&M nearby. As lol as Sainsbury's and Tesco.
Thanks!

The long black one is the best I reckon.

Definitely the long black one! I wouldn’t buy anything new with that in my wardrobe.

Great, thank you all, that's a relief. I'll just buy some flats tomorrow, and get my eyebrows done.

I have seen an updo for my hair length that involves twisting strands of hair and pinning them down which looks easy enough for me to DIY. I initially thought I might have to have a hair cut too, but that do should hide the worst of my current hairstyle.

Second dress is fine. Big earrings and a nice hair do and you’ll be grand

SpiritedLondon · 13/02/2019 23:14

Aaahhh you were holding out on us. The long black one definitely with some new accessories- earrings / clutch etc and it will look great. Hope you have a lovely time. ( I never get to go to black tie events 😩)

Black one will be great 👍. Bag , accessories and lippy with your hair do and you are sorted . Have a great time .

Yes! Your wardrobe has more in it than you realised Smile

I bought some new lipstick and shoes, but then we had to completely blow our budget when we realised that black tie meant tuxedo and not just a dark suit for DH! Just ordered one from ASOS, and hoping it will arrive in time for tomorrow!

2nd absolutely perfect! It is epitome of a great black tie dress!

Thanks!
Talk about cutting it fine, we need to leave in 30 minutes and we’ve just had the tux delivered! Hopefully it fits as we have no time to change it now!
