Red dress - what colour tights and shoes?

The dress is very similar to this one (but with slightly longer sleeves and and a straight skirt)(and the buttons are a sort of horn colour not metalic)

Lunch at posh stately home venue next week. What colour tights and what footwear do you think?

Nude and nude! Not black. Go for a natural look tights with nude or cream shoes for something elegant and classy :)

Deeedeeee · 12/02/2019 17:47

Probably natural tights, shoes in nude, tan, bronze or yellow for a smarter and more formal look. For a younger look you could wear this with little pointed ankle boots, I think that would work (but I do wear some strange combinations sometimes!)

Laiste · 12/02/2019 19:32

I'm glad i asked. I was thinking black but have spent long enough hanging about here to have a spidey sense it would be wrong. But didn't know what would be right ! Grin

I've got long black suede boots - are they're out as well?

I've got some nude sandals. Bit like these

but with a wooden heel.

What do you think?

Bare legs and your nude sandals!

EarringsandLipstick · 12/02/2019 20:46

Oh no I have to disagree 😀
Nude tights / bare (tanned!) legs - YES
Nude shoes / sandals - NO!

You need pointy (ie dressy) black ankle high-heeled boots, to dress it up. 💃

Laiste · 12/02/2019 21:24

Oh blimey Grin

I can have tanned legs, that's ok. And i've got nude tights, various pairs.

  • I do have black ankle boots but they are a bit on the chunky side for dressing up.
  • I have the nude sandals.
  • I have knee high, high heeled suede boots (will no one suggest these?! They would be warm and they're comfy!)
  • I have black courts, patent with a high block heel.
Or, thinking about it,
  • I've got some high heel grey 'Mary Jane' strap ones? Bit like this:

lookastic.co.uk/women/grey-suede-pumps/shop/deanna-mary-jane-pump-765471

but with a black patent heel. How about those?

Or should i go out and actually part with some cash for something?HmmShock

Nude tights, nude or brown shoes ideally unless you have dark red

Deeedeeee · 12/02/2019 21:48

The nude sandals/bare legs would be fine if it wasn't February, you will freeze.

The black suede boots might look ok but I'm imagining that look to be less smart, how smart do you need to be?

EarringsandLipstick · 12/02/2019 23:59

I wouldn't go for the Mary Jane shoes or anything with a chunky heel, not smart enough.

But yes maybe to the black suede boots. I don't think you should buy something if you don't want to 😊

CountFosco · 13/02/2019 05:44

Of your shoes I'd go for the black courts or the grey mary james but I think we need photos to decide!

DoingMyBest2010 · 13/02/2019 06:05

Nude/nude

mellongoose · 13/02/2019 08:35

If it was me, I would go for nude tights with something like these. Obvs not Christian Laboutins though in my dreams!!!!

Red dress - what colour tights and shoes?
Laiste · 13/02/2019 09:42

Oh those green Laboutins ...... :) I didn't think of doing a clashing colour. Hmmmmm.

I agree about a chunky heel being less glam.

The black suede boots are very smart, quite high and smooth to the leg right up to cover the knee, so they would disappear under the hem. But the heel isn't stiletto.

I'm going to have to go out and buy some something aren't i? I used to love shoe shopping in the days when i could afford to spend £££ on butter soft shoes Hmm I saw some nice courts in River Island recently. I'll have a poke about today and report back.

Thanks for the help Flowers

Dress and boots is a pretty classic winter option.

EarringsandLipstick · 13/02/2019 14:43

@mellongoose
YESSS... those green shoes are fab, what a great idea.

hope you get sorted OP - and have a great time Smile

sirmione16 · 19/02/2019 16:09

People are ignoring the black long boots for a reason. Long boots with a red dress is too red light district. I'll say it Grin

ShopoholicIn · 20/02/2019 18:10

I would have loved black suede boots but i am not considered stylish.... sorry no help op

XingMing · 20/02/2019 19:55

Reeeally.... I've seen a few hookers in my time, and a red knee/midi dress with chic knee boots wasn't one of the preferred options. Tell me micro mini with thigh high boots and fishnets, and I'd agree. There are gradations between madonna and whore, but the clothes, briefly described, could sound similar and look worlds apart.
