What decade do you think of when you see this dress?

Hi, I’m going to a 50s inspired ball but I don’t really want the full skirted look. I think this dress is probably more 40s, but what decade would you think of if you saw someone wearing it?

It’s looks to me like a 1940s dress. Like the type women would wear during the WW2

Definitely 40s. I'm rewatching Tenko and all the dresses are like that.

endofthelinefinally · 10/02/2019 21:11

40s. But it is a gorgeous dress.

Shockers · 10/02/2019 21:13

This is it on the model. It is definitely 40s, isn’t it?

I think I’ll buy it anyway- I love it!

40's

I love that dress. I have a similar one in gold silk

apparentlyso · 10/02/2019 21:16

40s definitely, I'm not sure it could be styled to be the classic '50s' look either.
Have you tried Ebay?

FairyMoppings · 10/02/2019 21:16

Stunning. Yeah, I'd definitely go 30s/40s

Bipbopbee · 10/02/2019 21:18

What a gorgeous dress! Where is it from please OP? Agree though it’s definitely 40’s style.

AnyFucker · 10/02/2019 21:18

Where is it from ?

Shockers · 10/02/2019 21:21

The website it’s on came up on my fb newsfeed. They have so many fabulous dresses... but none of them are 50s style!

Shockers · 10/02/2019 21:22

It’s called Lux Fix. It appears to be a site where small designers sell their wares.

HarrySnotter · 10/02/2019 21:23

40s but oh my it's beautiful!

ImBattlingOn · 10/02/2019 21:24

Where's it from? It's gorgeous!

babysharkah · 10/02/2019 21:25

40s and gorgeous!

bialystockandbloom · 10/02/2019 21:26

Definitely 40s. Is it Nancy Mac?

UniversalTruth · 10/02/2019 21:28

Have you looked at www.lindybop.co.uk

Lots of 50s style dresses there.

Blueuggboots · 10/02/2019 21:28

If you want 50's but not a wide skirted one, what about a wiggle dress?
this?

AnyFucker · 10/02/2019 21:28

How much £££ ?

Shockers · 10/02/2019 21:31

I saw Nancy Mac on one of the dresses, but I’ve lost the ad on my feed now. I signed up for the website and they’ve sent me an email which doesn’t appear to lead to anything. I’m not very IT savvy though 😬.

OP posts:
Shockers · 10/02/2019 21:33

It was around £170 AnyFucker. I’d only spend that on something I’d really love though... and I really loved the look of this.

Shockers · 10/02/2019 21:35

Where did you find your gold silk one from, @AnyFucker?

OP posts:
Shockers · 10/02/2019 21:36

I think I’ll go in 40s and pretend I’m a nostalgic 50s woman Grin.

OP posts:
AnyFucker · 10/02/2019 21:39

I have had it many years (at least 15, honestly) and don't actually remember where I got it from. It was about £120 back then so a real treat.

It is pure gold silk with a busy pattern of black, pink and red birds of paradise on it. I get complimented every time I wear it.
