I've been searching high and low for a flattering, dark-coloured, fit and flare style coat that that hits above the knee. I'm sick of wandering around looking like a sausage. I need some shape to my clothes so that I don't look like an egg on legs. I've traipsed up and down the high street (found nothing) and searched online. I've found two coats that fit the bill but they're expensive and not in my size (14-16):

www.johnlewis.com/ted-baker-blarnch-wool-blend-scallop-trim-swing-coat/p3715415

Has anyone seen anything similar to this for a more reasonable price and in a larger range of sizes?

How about this one? www.next.co.uk/style/esl85388#L85388

Deeandwizzy That caught my eye at first, but upon closer inspection I'm not a fan of the stripes and the red thread around the button holes. Close, though - the shape is exactly what I'm looking for!

Try monsoon ...I tried to paste the link but not working for me , but they have some fit and flare. I got one from eBay , really good condition.

Any on collectif any good?

madamefraser There are some nice shorter coats in Monsoon at the moment but unfortunately didn't see anything that I liked that was a bit longer.

Soiree That coat would be perfect if the fur collar was detachable. I've found this www.collectif.co.uk/clothes-c1/jackets-coats-c12/lillian-coat-p3538 on the same website and this could be a winner depending on how big/small Collectif's sizes are. Do you have much experience shopping there? If so, how's the sizing?

I don't I'm afraid, just remembered seeing the costs on another thread recently.

Soiree · 30/01/2019 22:03

Coats!

caddywally · 30/01/2019 22:07

Soiree Thanks anyway. I might just take the plunge and order and see what it's like.

Oh Gosh I like the Karl Lagerfeld coat. I have the Ted Baker in Green, it is a fab coat but I paid about £30 less than that. Is that still too much ?

Any of the retro clothing sites are a good bet and you may find a swing coat among the Gothic ones on EMP

caddywally · 04/02/2019 00:37

Oldraver I ended up buying something from Dorothy Perkins for about £20 in the sale. It's not really what I wanted, but it'll do. I think I'll resume my search for the perfect coat at the end of 2019 - lots of places seem to be getting rid of their coats so perhaps now isn't the best time to be coat shopping!
