Pockets on dresses

Who on earth invented pockets on dresses. Is it to strengthen the whole ' equal rights' agenda. Just because men have pockets on trousers, doesnt mean they have to suddenly appear on every dress on the market. Just as I think I have found a dress that will suit me, low and behold it has pockets. I can assure you it does not do any favours to someone like me who is pear shaped. Just gives the dress a strange shape and adds on another inch to my sides coz they stick out. Angry #dontPutPocketsOnEverydress

You're shopping in the wrong places. Try any high street shop and popular online retailer. For some reason, they usually omit details of pockets, and you might find sneaky hidden ones.
You might want to consider the faux pocket. These clever details look like pockets but without the functionality. How's that for ingenious?
Also consider chest pockets - I know you don't like pockets, but you can pop things into these to draw attention to your bosom. You could keep your mobile close to your heart and maybe a lipbalm or hanky, or one of those fold-up carrier bags in the other.

I love pockets in dresses and skirts.

Ispatienceavirtue · 19/01/2019 14:46

Yes TheBitterBoy, so many tops with boob pockets or even worse just one, so either my big boobs are emphasised or just one is!

MikeUniformMike · 19/01/2019 14:52

Oops, I thought it was a reverse. Like most of the others, I'm someone who won't wear things without pockets - well, dresses, skirts, trousers and jackets.
Try Jigsaw. They had some lovely dresses in the sale. I'd have spent a lot there but I'm not spending around £50 on a dress without seam pockets.

TakeAChanseyOnMe · 19/01/2019 14:56

Lindybop has a “dresses with pockets” section. They’re mainly circle skirts so the skirt is big anyway.

abcriskringle · 19/01/2019 15:48

Whaaaaaaat???!! I deliberately look for dresses WITH pockets! Totally disagree!

IntentsAndPorpoises · 19/01/2019 15:53

I love dresses with pockets. And I'm a pear shaped size 16. Practicality over look! I need pockets for my phone, keys, cash etc. I love my winter coat as it has massive pockets so I don't need a bag!

IntentsAndPorpoises · 19/01/2019 15:54

Also the only perosn who noticed your hips/thighs is you.

Jiggins · 19/01/2019 15:57

I'm with you on this, OP. I much prefer my dresses without pockets too. I never put things in my trouser pockets as it is.

fishonabicycle · 19/01/2019 16:26

Hardly any dresses have pockets! And pockets are great. Can put my work pass in, or a credit card, or phone. Bring on the pockets!

dudsville · 19/01/2019 16:59

It's really easy to sew a pocket closed so that the fabric lies flat.

Sigh81 · 19/01/2019 18:02

Love a dress with pockets. I don't put things in, just my hands. When I give a presentation I like to have one hand in my pocket and use the other to gesticulate- if by any chance I am not wearing a dress or trousers with pockets it feels SO odd!

emmeline7725 · 19/01/2019 18:04

I love a dress with pockets! Even my wedding dress had them!

Tootrousers · 19/01/2019 18:06

I have dresses with and without pockets. I like putting my hands in the pockets but would never put anything else in them, I’m surprised so many people do. Does it not pull the line of the dress?
I have also been known to cut the pockets out of dresses and sew them up as like op, it can sometimes make my hips look wider depending on the shape of the dress

LordProfFekkoThePenguinPhD · 19/01/2019 18:08

I keep my work passes, business cards and phone on mine. If I’m covering a show I need all sorts of crap and can’t lug around a bag so pockets are bloody brilliant.

Passmethecrisps · 19/01/2019 18:11

Now I bloody love a pocket on a frock. But do people actually use them for carrying things? I pop my hands in there two avoid having to do anything else with them. I bought a lovely scarlet red dress the other day which I felt needed pockets. I think it’s because it has a relaxed, swing fit like another frock I have which has pockets.

I know what you mean by added bulk though, OP.

hatethinkingofusernames · 19/01/2019 18:12

Also pear shaped and completely agree! Hate pockets

Passmethecrisps · 19/01/2019 18:12

Two?? To. I see I cross posted with lots of people as well.

allthatmalarkey · 19/01/2019 18:15

Pear shaped. Love pockets.

DonDrapersOldFashioned · 19/01/2019 18:15

Pockets in dresses for equal rights?!

Hahahahahaha
what?

Neverunderfed · 19/01/2019 19:56

I fucking love a good pocket. It drives me mad that my toddler has more pockets in his jeans than I do.

Thought have a whole section of dresses with pockets.

ArkAtEee · 19/01/2019 22:43

I hate the look of pockets, it ruins the lines (except for maybe a full skirt). I hate them on menswear too for the same reason.

TweeBee · 19/01/2019 22:48

I love a dress with pockets. Saves me having to shove a tissue in my bra for dealing with the inevitable runny nose. How times have changed!

tubspreciousthings · 19/01/2019 23:14

Love dresses with pockets - this is my current favourite (some oos online but plenty in store). https://m2.hm.com/m/en_gb/productpage.0550309001.html

ThanksItHasPockets · 20/01/2019 10:15

As you can probably tell by my user name, I am ALL ABOUT dresses with pockets. I add pockets to skirts and dresses which don’t already have them. I am a teacher and need somewhere to put my whiteboard markers!
