...or are leggings not a good look - definitely not worn on their own,I hasten to add.

I don't personally love them with a miniskirt over the top

but I think with a shirtdress, other dress or skirt etc it looks fine

They are so useful though. For under that summer dress when it's too chilly for bare legs. There probably is an age cut off point though but I'm pretending not to notice it.

Botbot · 29/06/2007 20:35

I do it, and I remember them the first time round. In fact I remember thinking in about 1992 - 'aren't leggings a brilliant wardrobe staple? They'll be around forever'

And I'm a size 18.

I've got good legs though (honest).

The other day I realised what the difference is between leggings in the 80s and leggings now - it's the ankle issue.

In the 80s/early 90s, I wouldn't have dreamed of showing any ankle with leggings. They had to tuck into boots of some description (flimsy pastel jobs in the mid-80s, then biker boots/army boots in the early 90s).

You could only wear shoes with leggings if they were ski pants and you tucked the stirrup in your stiletto (boak) - mind you, never did it myself, that was my mum's department.

Now, I'm perfectly happy to wear ballet-pump-type things with my leggings, and would look a complete arse if I tucked them into anything.

I'll shut up now.

My 11 year old style consultant tells me that leggins with a skirt is "Chavvy". Footless tights, however, are OK. If you like I'll ask her what she means!

fizzbuzz · 29/06/2007 21:23

Long to wear them, but did it first time around, so feel I would look as mutton.

Just gaze enviously at them

Hathor · 29/06/2007 21:25

Yes better than leggings without a skirt if you are over 25.

Hathor · 29/06/2007 21:25

which is worse, mutton dressed as lamb, or mutton dressed as mutton?

Blondilocks · 29/06/2007 21:30

Don't see why not.

I love the leggings & long t-shirt/short dress look.

Botbot · 29/06/2007 21:38

I reckon OK if flouncyish, kneelength or thereabouts skirt.

Short, tight, skimpy denim skirt not good.

Long flowy smock top good (am wearing as I type. In black so I don't look that pregnant)

not that I am pregnant.

Lamb dressed as mutton is pretty bad too!
