Help me out of my skinny jean rut!!

I’ve recently realised that I’ve been wearing the same style of jeans for at least 10 years and need advice on what else might suit me, as I’m clearly in a style rut!

I’m short (5ft) mid-30’s, size 8 and I only ever wear Topshop Leigh skinny jeans, as they fit well (not super tight over thighs) and come in a leg 28. I like boyfriend style and straight leg style jeans and tried a lovely pair from Hush but they didn’t come in a petite length and were just big all over for my frame.

I don’t have a lot of time for shopping with a 3 year old and 3 month old so I could do with narrowing down some brands to try so I don’t spend hours schlepping around the shops. I don’t want to spend loads - probably up to £70ish. Can anyone suggest a style / brand that would be flattering for my height?

No as a shrimp myself I find the skinny jeans the most flattering. Steer away from jeans and find skinnies in other fabrics.

That’s a good call madmum - I usually only wear trousers for work but I’d like to try wearing them more for everyday wear. As a fellow shrimp are there any you’d recommend? My most flattering pair are actually some Gap cropped trousers that are the perfect length but I don’t think they do that style any more.

What shape are you, OP? If you have a decent waist, then wide-legged jeans are surprisingly flattering on me at 5’2, but you need to wear them with something fitted on top, and they must be high-waisted. Mom jeans also look great on people with nice waist definition, and Topshop do good ones - roll up the ankles.

Stick with the skinnies you have, and instead get a fabulous pair of boots you can tuck them in to.

But if you need new jeans, try Uniqlo

Love topshop mum and Jamie, also next waist enhancer, and always go back to my trusty Levi’s.
As for trousers I have several pairs of gap “slim city” which I love, and some wide leg high waist things from Hobbs, as well as a pair of new look school trousers I’ve had for about 12 years that were a brilliant shape and fabric and have super pockets

I love the Topshop Orson jeans and the urban outfitters BDG mom jeans - both come in a short length. Levi’s wedgie jeans are also really nice but more of a cropped flare style on me than straight leg.

Thanks for the suggestions all - given me some ideas to try Smile I haven’t tried Urban Outfitters or Uniqlo jeans before and have never owned a pair of Levi’s but think I last tried them 15 years ago so probably ought to revisit!

@MaryLennoxsScowl - I have a decent waist and fairly flat stomach but bit solid on the thighs (so more pear than apple). I assumed that high waisted jeans wouldn’t work on a shorty like me but I’ll give the wide / Mom jeans a try.

@AuntieStella I like your thinking on the boots front - I don’t have any boots I would class as fabulous, so there’s obviously a gap in my wardrobe! I usually just wear with flat Chelsea type boots so I think I could do with some heeled boots to switch up my look a bit.

You sound the same shape as me - I’m a 10 - and I much prefer mom and wide jeans because they hide my thighs! Skinny jeans show them too much.

I’m an 8 but slightly taller - but with thick thighs . Am also stick in skinny jeans . Mint velvet do short trousers ( 30 inches) and have straight and skinny. I love massimo dutti coated jeans but they need to be taken up

At 5ft I do think skinny (but not too tight) jeans are exactly what would look best. Especially the top shop ones you've already got. Maybe try a pair of Topshop Mom jeans, they're quite flattering

Also Zara do some very nice straight cut trousers, smarter than jeans but not smart-smart
