Can we talk about the fact that we're all doing our make up in the dark this month?

I have just realised that the reason my makeup looks so weird at lunch time is that I'm doing it under artificial light at 7.00 am. because it's dark outside!

How do you get round this (without spending a lot of money on special lamps)?

My muscle memory is helping me!
I’ve been doing it so long, it’s as if my face is just there 😆

etnagreen · 11/01/2019 12:45

But... to answer your question. I sit under the main light in my bedroom!

Sarcelle · 11/01/2019 14:04

I tend to look a bit crap in the autumn and winter. So I am resigned that for the next 2 months or so I am going to look like shite, so resignation all the way!

SamSpade · 11/01/2019 14:05

I got a Hollywood-style light up mirror for Christmas as I do my makeup in a particularly dark corner of my bedroom!

Isleepinahedgefund · 11/01/2019 14:20

This made me laugh so much!

I think it's the base that can really go wrong. To mitigate this, I have spent some time on a non make up day trying all my foundation/concealer combo's so I know what I reach for on a dark morning will look ok come lunch time!

StatisticallyChallenged · 11/01/2019 14:36

I spend a lot of time doing my makeup when it's pretty dark so I also bought a good Hollywood mirror. It was worth it tbh, I no longer suffer from daylight shock!

sizzledrizz · 11/01/2019 14:40

I hold up a mirror in front of the main bedroom light. Which is basically as bright as the sun. And then check it around 8am.

chasegirl · 11/01/2019 14:41

Aha!!! So that's what it is!! Thought I just looked like shite Grin

I shall consider changing where I put my face on to somewhere with more light

MeetOnTheledge · 11/01/2019 14:42

I stop using most of it, just do brows and mascara.

GraceMarks · 11/01/2019 14:52

I'm sure you can buy special lamps which are supposed to mimic natural light better than the normal kind - might be worth looking into that. I don't wear makeup, so look equally shite all around the clock, but I find it quite liberating tbh. At least nobody is going to get a nasty shock when they see me without my face on!

dudsville · 11/01/2019 15:29

Oh god yes, and i can't do the Hollywood style mirror because i can't suffer looking at bright lights. I don't think to look in the mirror much during the day but when i do i trends to think "well crap". I figure everyone's used to seeing me this way!

afrikat · 11/01/2019 15:32

I bought stick on lights that go on my mirror - it's a whole new world. Waneway brand on Amazon

YahBasic · 11/01/2019 15:46

I have the light up No 7 make up mirror and just use less foundation in the winter.

I tend to use more retinol, glycolic and Hydraluron products in winter too, so my skin tends to be a bit brighter.

HouseOfGoldandBones · 11/01/2019 15:53

I've got a clip on light (looks like a book light) that I clip onto my mirror, with a daylight bulb in it.

emmskie03 · 11/01/2019 16:37

I actually did my make up in the dark the other day as my son was napping and I couldn't be bothered to walk the 3m or so into the bathroom. I did a pretty good job if you discount the mascara!

Welshcake77 · 11/01/2019 19:46

I also got a natural daylight stick on light for my mirror from Amazon. It’s amazing!
It’s called my beauty light
