It's to wear to DP's bday dinner at naice restaurant. More than likely with black tights and chunky heeled ankle boots.

Not a thick jumper as would be too warm.

Usual style is animal print/sparkly/vintage but all seem too OTT with a leather skirt esp for a Thu night dinner in January.

Size 12-14. Apple shaped so nothing cropped/tight on stomach.

Usual shops are ASOS/new look.

What would you go for?

Personally I'd always go for animal or bling with a leather mini, but I have no shame. I have some good batwing tops from Mint Velvet but they are ££. Have you looked in Next? They have a few things in the slouchy T-shirt kind of style, this sort of thing: www.next.co.uk/g52182s5#307152

Plain white t-shirt or vest.

OHolyNightOwl · 04/01/2019 22:01

Get a Phase Eight slouchy batwing top on EBay. That's what I wear with my leather mini, black tights and boots anyway.

I wear mine mainly with fitted fine-knit crew neck jumpers, or polo necks, but I am pear shaped so probably no help. I don’t shy away from sparkly or animal print with it, but would then wear black Stan Smiths which makes it seem more dressed down.

I'm currently wearing a black mini skirt which I wore with black tights and grey ankle boots out to dinner this evening with DH.

I bought a new thin black jumper from H&M today, it's slightly batwing, covers my slight mum tum and left me room for my dinner. Wore it with a big sparky necklace.

I wear mine with a red/black fitted check shirt with sleeve rolled up to elbow. I like it 😀

A wrap bodysuit

What about a merino fine knit jumper from UNIQLO? They have crew necks, v necks and boatnecks in a variety of colours.

Or, get a slogan t-shirt from somewhere like redbubble, again they do a variety of colours and necklines.

Thanks all. Have decided to embrace the animal and have ordered the following tops in the sale this morning.

Will see how they look when I pick them up.

Personally I think you should dress down leather as the skirt is the statement piece - I would go for the third top of those you have ordered as it has some black in it and is not as bold as the other two. I think a thin black knit polo neck with a flouncy top looks nice as well. It will be a great outfit for high heeled ankle boots which are very on trend. I agree with what juliestilldreams of horses and oholynightowl said above in regard to what goes best with leather. Hope you find the right top.

foxtiger · 10/01/2019 19:40
