Talk to me about being more groomed

bumblebee39 · 24/12/2018 23:22

I have v. Little time
Not much money
But long for that groomed glam look

So I'm thinking...

Eyelashes, eyebrows, nails all professionally done (or by mates so Mates rates but as good as the professionals)
Makeup- only needs to take 5-10 minutes but needs to be on
Hair- quick curls lots of hairspray or blow-dried nicely (no more straighteners) cut and coloured regularly with layers and a few choppy highlights
Clothes- quick iron or the tumble drier trick. Not creased, go together well.
Jewellery- a few statement pieces otherwise a decent wash and a few real bits in with the costume sparkles
Tan- just a hint in the winter, sprayed or faked in the summer

Am I missing anything? Don't want there to be some glaring thing that fails me? Sorry if I sound ridiculous I have fallen off the hair and beauty wagon and can't remember how to do "it" after a few years of declining standards

You’re making good points,so yea on right track.its personal taste, what suits
I have never had Eyelashes, eyebrows, nails all professionally done.ever
Is it really necessary?whats involved?i do all of those myself,at home.
I’m understated regard Eyelashes, eyebrows, nails. I genuinely think less is more
Hair, I go every 5wk cut and colour. Think it makes a difference
Statement jewellery, don’t wear those. I wear a watch and a simple bracelet

I lay my clothes and accessories out in advance for the week,so no morning faff or drama

bumblebee39 · 25/12/2018 00:11

Ooh I love menu planning for the week could do my clothes when I finish! Plan the weekdays, then weekends free reign

OP posts:
LipstickHandbagCoffee · 25/12/2018 00:15

Lay out clothes for week, makes mornings easy.no faff,no hunting about
I make lunches night before, and cook & freeze meals.take out freezer pop in fridge in morning
For me planning ahead works.i pack all bags night before inc the kids stuff

Wellthisisunexpected · 25/12/2018 00:28

Depends what look you are going for. To me pro nails/eyebrows/ lashes are too much and I'd rather spend time and money doing other stuff but that is personal choice.

I'd ask yourself why you want to do this though. Are you looking for a partner?
If so, and you are straight It's worth considering that very few men go for pro beauty treatments. Nor do most of the women I know. Don't be a martyr to outward appearance. Real connections are forged on deeper things, honestly...

Eyebrows are so easy to do yourself. Ditto nails. Hair is more skilled so id focus there if anywhere.

LipstickHandbagCoffee · 25/12/2018 00:32

What is your make up,fragrance routine?
Personally I like fragrance & makeup that makes me feel groomed

Nicknamesalltaken · 25/12/2018 00:33

Eyelash extensions are a game changer.

When you go to an appointment - whatever it’s for - always make your next one.

bumblebee39 · 25/12/2018 00:34

To feel better about myself for myself

Because I like the way it looks (and used to be much more groomed before I had kids and abusive ex's)

Because it's a bit of fun

Because I'm not intending to date for the next couple of years so thought I'd have some fun without being concerned about the opposite sex at all

Racecardriver · 25/12/2018 00:35

Professional eye lashes and nails (and potentially brows) along with fake tans, lots of hair srpay and statement jewellery will make you look over groomed and consequently less groomed somehow. All you need is a blow dry, minimal make up and ironed clothes.

LipstickHandbagCoffee · 25/12/2018 00:36

Eyelash extensions what’s involved, what’s the ongoing cost
Again too much extension and there lies the towie crew and Lauren Goodger

bumblebee39 · 25/12/2018 00:38

@Racecardriver

I like the sound of "over groomed" 😂

Of course grooming makes you feel good, I love a hair mask and Superdrug haul
I feel good about myself when I’m groomed,I,ssuspect most folk do
Groomed is of course subjective & personal.but it has a +ve effect upon how self esteem

LipstickHandbagCoffee · 25/12/2018 00:41

I need to categorically say, grooming is predominately for me.i like it,it makes me feel good
Something as simple as squirt of perfume, clean clothes,it makes me happy

BusterGonad · 27/12/2018 04:54

Well believe it or not some women actually like to look good for themselves, I know that's hard to believe! Madness isn't it?

BusterGonad · 27/12/2018 04:55

Wellthisisunexpected I meant to say!!!

Mani/Pedi in classic colors. Nails not long.
Eyebrows threaded and coloured to compliment hair.
Thread any other wayward bits too! I do a bi annual full face thread. I can't see any hairs personally but when it's done my skin is brighter.
Hair colored regularly by myself every 3 weeks. I cannot abide my roots showing. Hair clean and styled. Now, my trick to keep this looking glossy and styled for 5 days is a spritz of dry shampoo around the front hairline just before bed (don't brush it out) and somehow that keeps my hair looking great. Good haircut as often as you need it.
Clean clothes. Clean shoes. Great sunglasses. Fabulous handbag.
Earrings. Plus one other piece of jewelry.
Natural makeup. Good mascara....I like the new Chanel 3D. Buy good products.
I get the mani/pedi/threading/eyebrow colour all at the same time every 3 weeks. So, maximum, 90 minutes of my time. Make up takes 5 minutes at most. Always wear lipstick and mascara.

primoestate · 27/12/2018 05:13

....and perfume

SD1978 · 27/12/2018 05:18

Lashes not necessary, eyebrows essential. Nails short but well groomed- don't need fake. Eyelash perming is amazing! Lasts about 8 weeks and you can see a huge difference for me, groomed means
Good haircut/ colour
Neat nails
Eyebrows shaped (can add coloured if want)
Clothes good quality and 'classic' in style
Good quality or well thought out jewellery
A quality handbag
Simple makeup, neutral lipstick (day)

I am currently sat in grinch pyjamas and haven't washed my hair in two days. And have bitten stubs for nails. And eyebrows that currently I am concerned a passing frisky caterpillar may try to have their wicked way with if they came across me, so the above list is my fantasy look!!!

SD1978 · 27/12/2018 05:19

And add a good quality scent. Perfume always gives a good impression

Itssosunnyout · 27/12/2018 05:28

I have my eyebrows upper lip and chin threaded every 3 weeks (£6). Roots done every 5 weeks at hairdresser using a premium dye (£11.50) and every 6 months book in a balayage but skip the blow dry. don't bother with nails buy ensure I've got a matched quality foundation, blusher and mascara. My best buy is a foundation brush from Bobbi Brown. It was a game changer in how much foundation I use and apply. I use hardly anything and dab it into skin like those beauty blenders but my skin looks great. Watch a YouTube video on application with similar looking people to help with the natural but done look that you want.

You don't need to go crazy but find a beautician who is excellent at what they do along with quality products that match. I tend to restock when there is a debenhams sale.
The same goes for skincare and I've tested out dupes which I've transferred to so saved a lot of money.

You can look nice for yourself but it doesn't need to cost the earth.

SD1978 · 27/12/2018 05:47

@Itssosunnyout- why thread I read of wax, out of interest? I had upper lip threading once and the pain almost broke me!! What advantage does it have over waxing those areas?

Itssosunnyout · 27/12/2018 05:53

I agree its sore I just make sure my appointments aren't when I'm due on my period as its much more painful.

I go threading out of laziness of not having to go elsewhere for another appointment. My threading lady does it at her house and is super quick. If I really can't bothered i use the nair hair removal cream.

Itssosunnyout · 27/12/2018 05:55

Oh and threading my eyebrows I feel I have a sharper shape.

Bumblebee39 · 27/12/2018 10:21

Love threading it's sooo quick and I think it hurts less than waxing

I don't have long nails but if I paint them myself they chip so better having gel on

OP posts:
user1497787065 · 27/12/2018 10:33

I agree with the over groomed comment. Neat nails, in my opinion, look more groomed than painted extensions.

What about good skin, make up that makes you look a more polished version of you.

I was out yesterday and thought young women look so 'over groomed' if OTT eyebrows and lashes, overlong nails and tans can be considered grooming.
