Most natural looking hair dye for dark brown hair

I have quite dry long curly brown hair and quite a lot of grey has started to come through at the roots. I've been using Casting creme gloss (?) in the shade chocolate, but it doesn't look natural, and it seems whatever shade i choose it always looks slightly fake.

Any ideas? Which semi permanent dye looks most natural on dark brown hair? I'm not ready to use permanent hair dye yet and i can't afford to have it done at the hairdressers.

Thanks.

Daniel Field Watercolours. Use a shade a bit lighter than your own colour and it’ll turn the grey into subtle highlights.

Thanks. I don't know that one so I'll have a look.

I find Inoa very very natural. No one can tell my hair is dyed.

I find using a purple toner afterwards helps - tones down the over the top orange/yellow/red tones you get in brown box dyes

Scott Cornwall does a good one and boots sell it - it’s multiple use.

Oh great, thanks. Yes it's that orange "halo "that i don't like.

Do i apply the purple toner straight after dyeing it or will it still help weeks later?

Watching with interest.

Daniel Field are good, but I found that they wear off quite quickly.

Currently getting good results from Clairol Nice and Easy.

Maybe, which shade do you use? Does it leave an orangey glow?

I share your pain on that one - I have same hair type and dyed my hair 3 days ago with permanent dye and now have a nice brassy halo!

Clairol nice and easy, natural light brown. I'd say my hair was quite dead brown, but box dyes always come out darker than the box says. I think all the "natural " ones don't have the red tones.

I use the casting creme gloss too but realised I needed a much lighter shade so it didn’t look so heavy and unnatural. A friend also pointed out to not use any red toned colour at all. I have very dark brown hair and I use their Iced Latte which looks light brown on the photo but come out quite dark
