Dissapointing haircut - how can I make myself feel better?

Feeling very meh.
Yet again I have been to the hairdressers and got a cut that I didnt ask for. I cant say its bad or that I even dislike it but its quite a few inches shorter at the front than the reference picture. My hair is so slow to grow so I know its going to take months to get it to the length I wanted. Im so dissapointed.
Its a difficult situation as my hairdresser is a family member and it would be seen as an insult to go elsewhere. Shes a good hairdresser and has a lot of loyal clients but we never seem to be on the same wavelength. Every time I show her what I want she takes it and does a neater more people pleaser version while I like an edgy, undone look. Im just feeling gutted. I know its silly but I dont feel like 'me' with this hair.
Any tips to help me feel better while I take all the biotin containing multivitamins and hope for a hair growing miracle?

I can’t say anything massively helpful but I totally understand your pain! My hairdresser - who I love - does exactly the same. I know it’ll be a few weeks before I have the hair I want.

Any chance of the reference pic? I’m sure it looks good. I always use lots of styling product to help me get the look I want.

Life's too short go to another hairdresser as soon as you can get something you like !

WeCameToDance · 19/12/2018 21:14

Hope its attached, ive never tried to upload a picture before!
Basically where this is quite steeply inverted and long in the front, mine is hardly inverted at all and the length in the front of mine is the same as the short bit in the back of the reference image.
I feel really mean as she is a good hairdresser and she always colours it perfectly. Its just the cutting that goes wrong. Maybe im too much of a perfectionist and have to accept that to have her colour my hair i just have to deal with the cutting.

Go elsewhere. You’ll not get in before Xmas but see if you can find someone to funk it up in the new year

BlancheM · 19/12/2018 21:19

Sometimes you just have to leave it a week to get it used to go you wash and style it, muss it up a bit. I never like mine just after it's been done

WeCameToDance · 20/12/2018 09:40

I was hoping that sleeping on it and seeing it afresh in the morning I would like it more.
I dont. Im really unhappy with it. How do you complain though when the relative is family who I have to spend Christmas with?! I also dont want it rectified (i.e cut shorter! The problem is its too short).
I know there are bigger problems than my hair in the grand scheme of things but I feel really down about it.
Anyone know any sites that sell hair accessories?

Feel your pain. One of my NY Resolutions is to find a new hairdresser.

Ellapaella · 20/12/2018 12:30

How short is it? Can you put it up?

WeCameToDance · 20/12/2018 12:42

@Ellapaella The longest bit in the front is just about grazing shoulders. Its also pretty much one length as well. A bit like a bowl. I can put a bobble in it but it looks terrible and bits start falling out.
I think what im angry about is that my hair was waist length before. So I had plenty of length for this style. The hairdresser cut over half of it off before the colour i think not to waste dye and cut it too short. It wasnt really redeemable after that Sad

Not much you can do now but find a way to style it until it’s at a better length.

You don’t have to keep going back because she’s family. Just book in somewhere else. Don’t put up with shit hair just to be polite!

TruffleShuffles · 20/12/2018 12:51

There is nothing worse than a disappointing haircut, especially when you have gone for such a drastic change. I know you said it’s too short but would it help if you went somewhere else for them to just take the back shorter and keep the length at the front so you at least get the style you wanted and then it will grow out to how you wanted it.

PartridgeJoan · 20/12/2018 12:54

Next time could you go to someone else and say it's because someone had got you a voucher / you'd won a free haircut or something? Not a long term solution but will work once!

strawberrypenguin · 20/12/2018 13:01

A bad haircut is horrible. Stop going to this hairdresser you know they don't give you the result you want. It doesn't matter if they're a family member you don't owe them your business.

WeCameToDance · 20/12/2018 13:03

I could have a really good run of luck where I consecutively win vouchers to another salon Grin
I dont think I can go back there. Ive had enough of going in knowing its just not going to be what I asked for. It doesnt exactly make you feel like a valued customer. Ive scoped out a new salon. I think im going to grow it for a bit and go there. I just have to learn to live with it in the mean time. Not a sob story but I was bullied all through my school years over my hair so its a bit of a sticking point for me. I just wish I could rewind the clock and cancel my appointment!

I have my hair cut into a blunt long bob. Last December I changed my stylist 🤦‍♀️ and she cut it wrong and uneven. It took me a year to get it back into shape and I literally almost cried a couple of times.

When it comes to small things we sometimes tend to become over dramatic.

Find another hair stylist to fix the damage and let it grow. Hair grows fast, I promise!Grin

Yearofthemum · 20/12/2018 16:12

Some people are less good at one than the other. Having someone who cuts well is the key. If you're hot happy with her cut, move on. You paid your salary for a cut which she wasn't able to do.

katekat383 · 20/12/2018 16:31

Is your hair red like the model’s? Red hair is beautiful. As others have said, it will grow but yes, you should change your hairdresser.

katekat383 · 20/12/2018 16:34

Wear it up in the meantime. If it’s touching your shoulder, that should be doable.

costacoffeecup · 20/12/2018 16:35

I've tried to get that haircut a few times and it's always much shorter at the front than it should be and looks a bit like a boring bob. It will grow though.
