Winter coat

Anyone got/seen a nice one? I'm looking for

• wool or wool-blend

-tailored or at least vaguely shaped – not into the 'oversized' or 'cocoon' looks

• pockets you can actually put your hands in!
• not boring black or camel or grey. Open-minded about prints and, to an extent, checks, although I don't want to go too Basil Rathbone. I like animal prints and am not averse to faux fur.
• high-street budget (highest I can go is about £250)

Haven't bought a new coat for ages. Do you buy a size bigger than your usual size?

I find it varies from shop to shop. The only way is to try/order more than one size IME, which is what I've done with these ones. And obviously it's sensible to try them on with the kind of clothes underneath that you'd expect to be wearing the coat with, e.g. a heavyish jumper with a winter coat.

Very generally speaking, I tend to find that the fit of more upmarket high-street labels runs bigger and more downmarket ones smaller.

Arket has some gorgeous coats this year and Boden too, I got this in the Black Friday sale and have got lots of compliments.
