What do you do with old clothes?

I’m moving soon so having a major clothing clear out as I pack. I have a ridiculous amount of clothes. I don’t actually have the room to keep all the stuff I don’t like anymore - what should I do with them?

It seems wasteful to throw them out. I was thinking of donating to charity - would appreciate any advice here as I have never done that before. Some are new with tags, some have been worn once/twice, but then some are used with pilling along the hem (etc) or in good condition but with laundry detergent marks. I’m assuming I should just bin those? Also a bit afraid to sell online as it seems like a hassle when facing dodgy customers.

British Heart Foundation will come and collect them for you - there's a link on their website or you can ask your local store for details.

I rang Thursday, they came Saturday morning.

Don’t pu the in the charity bags that come through your door - these are often run by third parties making a profit.
Take them to a charity shop you care about. Maybe your local hospice shop? They desperately need the cash

Clothing bins are in most supermarket car parks

I always have a charity bag on the go and it gets given to my sister for her or her adult daughters (she's smaller than I am, they're not). I presume anything rejected by them gets passed to a charity shop. Or, if I'm going anywhere near a charity shop first, I'll take it myself.

I've had a few clear-outs in the last couple of years so there's very little worn out or damaged stuff these days but, if there was, I would take it to the recycling plant (walkable from home, unlike the charity shops).

Having said that, I've got half a dozen really nice things that I should sell I suppose...
