What to wear with a tartan pencil skirt?

I have a pencil skirt like this one. What do I wear with it? What colour? I've worn it with a plain scoop neck top, in both black and grey but feel like it's missing something...

Someone at work today had a pencil skirt with a very slightly oversized turtle neck jumper tucked in and it looked really good. Maybe dark green or black?

Hmm, that sounds doable, I have both a green and a black turtle neck so I might try those.

I think the top needs to be fitted , I noticed quite a few polo necked jumpers in the shops last weekend.
