Does anyone not tall and slim wear Me and Em ?

I absolutely love their current collection but suspect I am totally deluded imagining any of it would work on a middle aged 14-16 pear shape aren’t I ?
I am losing weight slowly so can wait a bit but don’t want to depress myself by placing an order and realising it won’t work on me even if I get back to a happier weight .
Thoughts ?

Here are a couple of things I like-

To be honest am looking again and I love so much of it but can’t see past super slim models !

I don’t know the answer but have been similarly lusting. I suspect even at 5’7 I’m not tall enough though.

Liveinthepresent · 10/11/2018 09:57

I am a pear shape which possibly makes it worse for trousers etc but I may order a couple of tops and just see how that goes .
I would love to look like those models - sigh !

I used to buy a lot from Baukjen but not very inspired by their stuff at the moment.

Let’s see if anyone comes along to say we can still look fabulous in their clothes.

I’m 5’4, a 10-12 and I love Me&Em. Usually have to take up the hems on trousers but otherwise the fabrics they use tend to flow and drape beautifully.
I have found the quality a bit suspect on some recent pieces though.

JuneFromBethesda · 10/11/2018 10:15

I asked them to take me off the mailing list because the catalogue irritated me so much - their models are so tall and thin and devoid of any sort of curves, I just couldn't imagine myself wearing any of the clothes.

mysteryfairy · 10/11/2018 10:41

I love their clothes but I am 5ft 10 and have been described as lanky (actually an 8-10 and their stuff starts at a 4). They are probably the closest to a good fit I can get on the high st. I am pear shaped and often wear a size bigger skirt/trousers than top - I think they are pretty good for a pear due to wide trousers etc. Their sizes definitely err on the generous too, so, as they go up to a size 16, they are selling to people with quite big frames. They are so expensive though but have excellent sales if you can hang on.

Floisme · 10/11/2018 10:54

I'm normally size 8-10 but also short (5'3) and kind of pear/hourglass shape so curves. I've not bought from them recently but have a couple of their ruched tube skirts from way back. I think their trousers look great and they have styles to suit a range of body shapes - I'd probably have to turn up the hems but I'm used to that. Their tops don't look too promising as a lot of them are high necked and look like they would end smack in the middle of my thighs.

If their quality is going off then that's a great shame - I hammered those tube skirts for 6 or 7 years and they're still in good shape.

EleanorLavish · 10/11/2018 11:09

Baukjen definitely caters more for a curvier figure, I find. I like their stuff and good value in the sale. Although the flash sale at the minute is dire.

LadyLapsang · 10/11/2018 11:16

I took the plunge recently and was very happy. I am mid 50s, 5 10 and a size 12, sometimes a 14 in trousers, or perhaps a 10 in mad oversized makes. I bought a cotton shirt and some track pants in a 12 and both are a good fit.

CountFosco · 10/11/2018 11:23

In that first picture the model is 20cm/7" taller than me. I suspect the 'cropped' trousers would be trailing on the floor. Their stuff is all very synthetic though so I pretend that is why I don't buy it and not the high price/clothes designed for those without boobs. Gorgeous stuff though.

Similar but with more clothesdesigned for curves is Finery. Or Arket which also has more natural materials.

LadyLapsang · 10/11/2018 11:30

The things I bought were 100% cotton.

Liveinthepresent · 10/11/2018 12:12

Ooh this is promising feedback !

I did think there was quite a wide selection of trouser styles so there may be hope

Am now contemplating being a stone lighter ready for a January sale !
Does anyone know when they run sales / discounts ?

Yes PP current Baukjen sale is woeful

Countfosco thanks for the new names to try - will look at these two

If you hold your nerve their sales are very good although not everything gets reduced and the lower priced stuff normally sells out fast. They normally have an offer around this time of year.

Floisme · 10/11/2018 12:18

Sorry you asked when Blush There's usually a discount code around this time of year but it may only be 10% or 15%. The best bargains are in the January / summer sales

FlorenceLyons · 10/11/2018 12:45

Their sales are excellent. Think they have quite a lot on sale at the moment, though obviously not this season's stock.

I'm 5'8" and a 12 on top and 14 on the bottom and their styles generally work well on me. Their wide leg trousers are especially good for pear shapes, I think.

Liveinthepresent · 10/11/2018 16:25

Roll on pay day I think I am going to give a couple of things a try - I have a new job so can kind of justify splashing out .
When I looked earlier they popped up with a 15% off your first order offer so that will help a little with the prices.
If the quality is there I don’t mind paying a bit more - Baukjen also seems hit and miss on that front too.

Thanks everyone

I get a Baukjen email nearly every day. The number of off-the-shoulder tops, jumpers and dresses bewilders me. It has to be a really special occasion to get me into a strapless bra (34DD), not a 'casual day look'.

MrsMariaPolouvicka · 10/11/2018 17:23

Sorry, not about body shape, but can I use the thread to rant about this jumper:

www.meandem.com/zigzag-snood-jumper-cream-black

Hadn't bought anything for a few years, but thought this was so different from anything else I'd seen, and loved the detachable neck....fours hours into first wear and it was bobbling like crazy. Luckily they accepted the return and refunded without question, but this was a £199 jumper for goodness sake (well ok £174 with the 15% but even so). It was no better quality than something for £30 from M&S.

GlasgowWorrier · 10/11/2018 18:49

Woah Nellie! What was the make-up direction for that shoot? ‘Darling, I’m thinking “feverish zombie” for the knitwear?’
