Pleeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeease find me a Christening dress for 17 month old dd

CantSleepWontSleep · 19/06/2007 13:37

Currently 16 months, but Christening is a month away. I spent ages searching online recently, and the one I chose was this . The largest size it comes in is 12-18 months, but having bought it, I find that the sizing is rubbish, as it's too small even now.

So it's back to square one.

I want something simple but pretty - the dress I had chosen should give you an idea of the sort of thing I like.

Dd will ruin the dress on the day with either food or mud, so I don't want it to be extortionately expensive. Will go up to £50 happily, but only consider higher if it's absolutely boooooootiful.

Over to you......

Awwww, bless you flame. Could you do me some better shots of it? How old was B there?

Just turned 2 - think its an 18-24 month dress (i remember worrying about whether the plaster would fit...)

Flamesparrow · 19/06/2007 15:15

skirt detail
waist detail
full shot

Its a shame you're not nearby - there is a shop in town that does beautiful dresses.

CantSleepWontSleep · 19/06/2007 15:21

Find me a hotel and I'll come visit .
It's very pretty flame (though you appreciate not exactly what I was looking for). I'll show the pics (in fact the whole thread) to MrCSWS and get back to you if that's ok. Surprised he hasn't stumbled across the thread already actually.

When is the christening anyway?

I thought I should offer it as a last resort type job

ThomCat · 19/06/2007 15:28

My DD was 9 months when we baptised her or you could have had mine.
I got ours from Debenham - think it ws a jasper conran one. Have you tried there?

CantSleepWontSleep · 19/06/2007 15:28

15th July. You'd have got an invite, but I didn't think you'd be able to get up here 3 weekends in the space of a month!!! You are of course welcome if you can!

OP posts:
CantSleepWontSleep · 19/06/2007 15:31

I thought I'd looked at Debenhams TC, and the dresses do come up in my history, but I don't recognise them as ones that I've looked at . Will study them later as dd has woken so I need to go and get her up.

Thanks for all of your contributions so far ladies, and do keep the suggestions coming .

ThomCat · 19/06/2007 15:38

ThomCat · 19/06/2007 15:39

ThomCat · 19/06/2007 15:42

ThomCat · 19/06/2007 15:44

All the ones I'm linking to come in 12-18 months btw

ThomCat · 19/06/2007 15:45

margoandjerry · 19/06/2007 15:48

How about ebay? They have new ones and old ones

this might be a bit plain for your taste but I'm sure others will come up.

I love the one you found btw. My daughter wore my mother's 1940 Christening Dress to her Christening and it was the prettiest thing ever.

IdrisTheDragon · 19/06/2007 18:07

Haven't joined the local bit of Mumsnet - will do it

Won't take any offence at all . it is silly having this dress sitting there in the wardrobe with its tags on it (suppose I could sell it on ebay ).

Will take a photo of it,hopefully later on today anyway.

Flamesparrow · 19/06/2007 18:09

A likely story

Tis DD's school presentation assembly on the Monday

lizandlulu · 19/06/2007 19:48

im sorry i have not read all the thread, but i got my dd's christening dress from mammaa and pappas. it was last october though. i recently went in and they have a dress almost the same as mine. it is the same kind of style as the one you had chosen. its an off white with a couple of butterfly's appliqued on it and like an overskirt on the bottom half. its quite simple but lovely. im sorry i cant do links. im not sure what size it goes up to though.oh and it was £26.

Nemo2007 · 19/06/2007 19:53

CSWS we got hannahs and chloes from mamas and papas..they were beautiful. I still have Hannahs which is in a 12-18mth if you wanted to try it
www.picturetrail.com/mishi1977

They dont actually have it on their site anymore but it is beautiful..will try to find a pic of H wearing it.

Nemo2007 · 19/06/2007 20:01

Have added a picture of H on my profile in the dress

CantSleepWontSleep · 19/06/2007 22:34

lol TC - did you get a bit carried away looking . We do agree on the Monsoon one though - I linked to it further down the thread!

Nemo - Hannah's dress is lovely - it hadn't even occurred to me to look at M&P, although they only have diddy ones on their site now.

MrCSWS has now read this thread and looked at all of the links (poor guy ) and he likes H9 from hoppybird's first link best. I am quite keen on this one (though not sure if it will be big enough) and this one from tortoise's link.

Am going to try and look at a few real shops this week/weekend too, and then make a final decision. Will let you know what we go for in the end.

Thank you all.

I've bought one .

It's a bit fancier than I said I wanted, and a bit more expensive, but otherwise fits my criteria exactly .

Can't find a link directly to it, but try this and select page 2, and it's the one on the right hand side of the top row and left hand side of the second row (hover over it to make it bigger). She tried it on in the shop because it's age 2-3, and I defy anyone not to have bought it once they'd seen her in it!

Now I just need an outfit for me, some caterers, some wine, some chairs, somewhere for everyone to park.....

OP posts:
Flamesparrow · 20/06/2007 20:23

lmao - that is NOTHING like you said you wanted

I'm sure she looks stunning though

CantSleepWontSleep · 20/06/2007 20:27

It's a dress isn't it - that was one of my criteria! It also doesn't have coloured bits, has a bit of sleeve, and has a layered skirt part similar to the original one. That's close enough in my book .

Hub2dee will be taking pics on the day, so you will of course be forced to look at them later .
