What to wear to a wedding in August?

My DH is best man, so I really need something in keeping with him. He's wearing a black suit, white shirt, gold tie & waist coat.
I've found a white linen skirt which comes to just below the knee, but don't know what to wear with it.
I'm open to suggestions or a completely new idea all together. budget will be about £50.

er

where is wedding? Church or civil? posh or relaxed? time of day? what size/shape are you? what colours suit you? Have you shoes / bags / somethign suitable in the wardrobe already

Black and white always looks good -
strapless top on r with white skirt?
top right camisole?
Monsoon have some nice tops too:
one
two
three

MrsBadger · 18/06/2007 22:01

actually Monsoon is heaving with good tops-to-go-with-white-skirts:

not black but still good
good for dodgy arms
#mark er#2
good for creating a waist
good for small norks

MrsBadger · 18/06/2007 22:02

that weirdy one should have been

only for good arms

cornsilk · 18/06/2007 22:04

Coast is good for wedding clothes but expensive, tho' you could try e-bay.

Tentacles · 19/06/2007 08:46

Thanks, off to look at links.
It is a church wedding.
I'm a 12/14. No ideas about which colours suit me .
I have a pair of cream flip flop things, that look smart, a suede bag that looks ok against against the skirt in a dark creamy colour.

Quite like 2 & 3 although not sure of v neck as I'm usually covered in nail marks and bruises from feeding ds2

oh, well maybe the 'small norks' one?

bag and sandals sound fine, and £50 for a nice black-and-white top and maybe a fascinator gives you lots of scope.

Saw some nice things in the window of Hobbs this morning - may be worth a look as well. Also Debenhams often have hidden gems.

Tentacles · 19/06/2007 10:20

We have a debenhams and a reasonably new monsoon here, might have a trek in town and try some tops on

OP posts:
MrsBadger · 19/06/2007 10:21

have fun - maybe take the skirt with you to assess the whole effect

Tentacles · 19/06/2007 10:23

lol at small norks! I've not been measured since '04!, been busy making babies and breast feeding. I was 34 D last time iirc

OP posts:
MrsBadger · 19/06/2007 10:28

well in that case never mind spending £50 on a new top - get measured TODAY and get a new bra instead!
It'll make any top you buy look 60000 times better.

(Bravissimo is a good place to start if you think you're still a D or bigger, otherwise try John Lewis, Debenhams or an independent lingerie shop)

Tentacles · 19/06/2007 10:31

Don't really want to measure till DS2 stops feeding, aiming at a yr old, so another 2 months to go!

OP posts:
Tentacles · 19/06/2007 10:32

that why I've not measured sooner, no accurate consistent size yet.

MrsBadger · 19/06/2007 10:33

[stern face]

but if you're prepared to spend £50 on an outfit for this wedding, spend £25 on a bra and £25 on a top. Honestly. Even if you only wear it for 2 months.

Tentacles · 19/06/2007 10:37

I know, you're right. Will get checked out at our local undies shop this week, they have a closing down sale too, so may have some bargains

OP posts:
Tentacles · 19/06/2007 14:27

what about this?

OP posts:
MrsBadger · 19/06/2007 14:29

bit floral for my taste but if it suits you...

(and make that a nice new strapless bra...)

Tentacles · 19/06/2007 14:32

Still searching

OP posts:
Tentacles · 19/06/2007 14:34

this?

OP posts:
MrsBadger · 19/06/2007 14:44

oh now that is quite cool
(strapless bra comment still stands)

why not wear the linen skirt though?

Tentacles · 19/06/2007 14:50

keeping options open
Will try to find pic of skirt

OP posts:
Tentacles · 19/06/2007 14:54

It's this one , only I paid £3.25!

OP posts:
lissie · 19/06/2007 14:57

i tried this on the other day, its really lovely on!

MrsBadger · 19/06/2007 15:10

oh that's really pretty (the skirt I mean)

A very simple top wouldn't overwhelm the detail on the skirt
