I'm bidding for this dress and hoping to get it. Have already tried it on and it looks good (it's for a wedding by the way). Now,.... accessories... I have a silver bag and silver shoes, do you think they'd look ok? And do I need anything else? Dress is a bit fussy so not sure about necklace... Earrings not an option unfortunately... Ta

ooh, very nice

silver bag and shoes sound fine (although this is one of the rare summer-wedding dresses where black would be ok too) and I think you're right to avoid a necklace with the halter top.

you could wear a fascinator if you fancied - cream or black.

LaCerbiatta · 18/06/2007 14:35

Thanks! The wedding is in Spain and it starts at 8.30pm! so maybe faccinator is not appropriate?
Hair will have to be diy styled since I won't be going to a hairdresser.... I hope I won't look too casual?....

oh yes, no fascinator for an evening do, but maybe some sparkly pins or something.
Be aware many of the other women will be in long dresses - is it black tie?

if you hair Goes Up, put it up.

LaCerbiatta · 18/06/2007 14:47

Yes, a spanish friend told me that younger women wear long dresses.... I really don't like it though, for a wedding... doesn't it look a bit silly?
I don't know if it's black tie or not. The bride is a work colleague of dh and he is very ill informed, he's actually refusing to even think about the wedding or what he's going to wear. We were home last week, in Portugal, and I told him he needed to bring a suit, since he doesn't have any here in England. He said there was no way he was going to bother, he preferred to wear jeans . I'm hoping it was a joke....

Hair doesn't go up unfortunately, not without professional help anyway, it's above shoulder length and choppy...
Will have a look in Accessorize to see if I can find any sparkly pins... Not too sure what to do with them, but hopefully inspiration will come!

Why are you opposed to a long dress? They're the social norm for an evening wedding there.

Don't wear a British wedding-guest outfit for the sake of it - imagine how weird we'd think they were if someone turned up for a 1pm English wedding in an evening dress because that's what they wore for weddings back home.

DH will certainly need a suit and don't be surprised if some of the mean are in balck tie.

MrsBadger · 18/06/2007 14:56

oh and the pins were only an idea - if you don't need hairthings to keep it up then go without.

LaCerbiatta · 18/06/2007 15:07

You're right I guess... just an excuse for the fact that I never had to wear a long dress and find the idea a bit daunting....

Thinking about it, they are a lot more forgiving aren't they? And a good way to hide my legs which I really don't like... Maybe I'll consider the idea....

much easier to get right than short, IMO - loads of lovely Monsoon ones on Ebay and if you're a 10 you can probably get away with most things.

LaCerbiatta · 18/06/2007 15:30

Right, if I win the bidding for this one I'll have to get it, so that's what I'll take. If I don't maybe I'll look into a getting a long dress.
The problem with dresses for me is that even though I'm a size 10 I've a big tummy and weird shape somehow and dresses never look right. The one from Coast I'm bidding for is great for that because of a ruching effect at the front that completely hides my stomach, I wouldn't even need to wear control pants, which I normally do with dresses.

Anyway, thank you so much for your help, MrsB, you're a star!
