I'm 5 foot ten and about a size 12-14. I'm struggling to find a nice style of clothes for wearing that compliment me. Also struggle show wise as I hate being tall. But if going out struggle to find nice shoes that aren't heels. Help

I'm also sort of in a budget.

Also love holly willoughby style.

I have you in my mind as a Liv Tyler / Anne Hathaway type. Do you like their style?

Gingefringe · 02/11/2018 20:53

Complement ...

usertall · 03/11/2018 07:29

@winterisstillcoming yes, quite similar. And I do like their style.

Copy! Copy copy what you like! A good place to start.

usertall · 03/11/2018 08:38

@winterisstillcoming liv Tyler wears massive heels, I couldn't. I think i would look ridiculous in pictures towering over everyone even more.

UMa Thurman is your shape I think. I love her style but she's not my shape

yestonodressyet · 03/11/2018 09:46

@usertall are you on instagram? Check out 40plusnotgivingup she's the same proportions as you and had some great high street tips and does lots of try on videos

usertall · 03/11/2018 10:16

@yestonodressyet just had a nosey on her Instagram. I really like her style.

Uma Thurman looks brilliant too. Can't understand why I end up looking so yuck

SchnitzelVonKrumm · 03/11/2018 12:47

Uma 's style is quite simple I think - you need some good quality basics and then add some funkier accessories. I mostly wear navy, grey or black but I love a coloured shoe.

usertall · 03/11/2018 19:42

Yeah she is. Her dressy outfits look so glamorous though. I struggle mostly with smart/casual e.g. going out for lunch or to the pub.

I'm 5ft 10 and have foot problems so can only wear flats.

I tend to wear smart suede ankle boots for going out, as they look good with skirts (Aline and tube) and dresses. I have a fake leather skirt from the Dorothy Perkins tall range, which means it's not indecent, I wear it loads and dress it up or down, with black 15 deniers and ankle boots.

Pinterest is great for inspiration. I love this look

You can get some great pieces from TOAST but you're right, some of it is a bit too oversized.

The denim dresses are a winner - eBay is your friend when looking for good quality clothes from TOAST.

It's my belly aswell. It's gross.

You sound a little down OP, are you ok? Did you find anything to wear?

usertall · 09/11/2018 20:08

Very down. It wasn't a specific occasion, just need to find some stylish clothes that make me look and feel good.

Totally agree Scandi style is the way to go. I’d go for chunky tights and boots and a wrap dress to dress up a bit. For work I wear loafers plus 7/8 trousers or pencil skirt and flat t bar shoes. I mainly wear slim fit jeans for casual with Sandals or ankle/knee high boots depending on the season. I’m 5 9 size 10. Remember everyone hates something about their body. But with height everyone assumes it’s a positive so embrace it :)

usertall · 10/11/2018 12:37

@ayeplesandbaynaynays lol yeah everyone who is not tall loves it.

What is Scandi style? Sorry I'm so clueless. What's your opinion on pencil skirt and flats ?

Look up pencil skirt with flat shoes on pinterest. Looks good imo and much more comfortable for work!

usertall · 10/11/2018 20:12

Some of those styles look alright. But skirts with trainers look ridiculous.

OP posts:
ayeplesandbaynaynays · 10/11/2018 20:59

Skirts with trainers?!

FellSwoop · 10/11/2018 21:06

At 5ft10 you are hardly so tall as to be ungainly!! My sisters are tall ranging from 5ft 9 to 6ft tall and look great in heels!

You say you like Holly W's style...well, I've googled for ideas and found an article with several lovely outfit ideas that I think would suit your shape beautifully!

One of the pics on the scandi style looked like trainers with a skirt??

Oh love some of those holly Willoughby outfits. Thanks.
