Does anyone use Lipcote these days?

I've been looking for a transfer-resistant lipstick for my wedding but I can't find one in the colour I want (a dark red to match dark red roses). I found a long last liquid one - Maybelline Stay Satin in Rad - but I kissed DP to test it and while I can tell it would last on my lips a long time it's definitely not kiss-proof which is what I want. So I'm wondering if Lipcote is still a thing? I remember getting it donkeys years ago when I was a teen but I have vague memories of dryness. Has anyone used it recently? Could I comfortably wear it all day?

I do. I still buy it boots

Harebellmeadow · 27/10/2018 20:52

I find it horrible - dry and brittle , causing the colour to flake off. Never again! Not nice smell too

Shazafied · 27/10/2018 20:53

Have you tried Kat von d liquid lipstick ? Sold in debenhams

Hellywelly10 · 27/10/2018 20:55

It was like varnishing your lips. But my red lipstick did stay on all day. I think its worth giving it a go.

Mossend · 27/10/2018 21:01

My DH carried my Lipcote in his sporran on our wedding day

Kbear · 27/10/2018 21:02

I do - buy it in Boots

SassitudeandSparkle · 27/10/2018 21:03

Ooh, might have to have a look in Boots next week - haven't used that in years but it did work (and yes, was a bit drying).

Guiltypleasures001 · 27/10/2018 21:04

I do have done for many years, I've never had a problem with it

PicInAttic · 27/10/2018 22:01

Another fan here - been using it for about 30 years now 😄 Buy it from Boots, Superdrug or Amazon.
I love it - keeps my lipstick on for a 12 hour day.

hugoagogo · 27/10/2018 22:04

My boyfriend at uni used to. Halloween Grin
I still love Goths.

OhMyGodTheyKilledKenny · 27/10/2018 22:08

Lipcote?! Now there's a blast from the past. Shock

I had a brief phase of wearing bright red lipstick about 25 years ago, but as a smoking , drinking, partying 25 year old needed something to keep the lipstick in place which was when I discovered it.

God that stuff used to sting and burn from what I remember.

OrcinusOrca · 27/10/2018 22:10

I use it. Only discovered it in the last year.

CartwheelCath · 27/10/2018 22:12

I work 12 hour shifts and wear Max Factor Lip Finity.
It stays on long after I get home! It's a joke in our house that I come home remove all make up and shower, then mooch in my pjs with my lipstick still pretty much fully intact.
When I'm back in work 12 hours after I get home and had 2 showers so 24 hrs from application (when I get home and when I get up to go back to work). It's still there to some degree!!

It's a 2 stage thing. I find the secret is to apply the colour and leave it a few minutes so it completely dries befire adding the top coat which is like a lip balm kind of thing.

If I apply the top coat before colour coat has dried - it goes patchy and does not stay as long.

@Mossend aw that's love

Thanks all, maybe I'll give it a go. It's not that dear I suppose if I try it again and don't like it.

@CartwheelCath I was trying to find a Lipfinity or a Maybelline 24hrs but I can't find the right colour.

@Shazafied what's that like on? I read mixed reviews about it being tricky to apply with the applicator and being very dry, but I don't know anyone who uses it to ask them.

I like the Kat Von D liquid lipstick and haven't had any issue with transfer or found it drying. Looking at the swatches Nosferatu might be a good option colour wise.

My favourite liquid lipsticks are the NARS powermattes, but reviews differ between shades. Temptalia does shade specific reviews for these and the Kat Von D ones if you'd like a look.

TantricTwist · 27/10/2018 22:44

I bought lipcote in Primark the other day which means my normal lipstick lasts loads longer and it's not dry and brittle at all on my lips.

I also have L'Oreal infallible 24 hour lipstick which does last at least 8 hours, they don't really have many shades I like, in fact none of the long lasting 24 hr lipsticks have shades I like which is annoying.

SassitudeandSparkle · 27/10/2018 23:46

The MF LipFinity is good as well, I used to wear that when exercising and it did stick really well.

snapnfarter · 27/10/2018 23:50

Not in the last 20 years. It's so drying, smells awful and gives me a weird dry spittle line inside my lips.
Try the Jeffree Starr liquid lips. Amazing.

snapnfarter · 27/10/2018 23:52

Try Wifey by JS maybe?

userofthiswebsite · 27/10/2018 23:53

The best I've found so far is YSL Tatouage Couvrage. It's a stain.
I've got Kat Von D liquip lipstick and Stila and whilst I love the shades in both I get that thing where if I eat sometimes a smudge of the colour manages to make its way onto my chin.
The YSL - as it's a stain that sinks into the lips - rather than a paint that sits on top, does not have that problem. There's about 20/25 shades, mostly oranges and reds, hardly any pink shades.

Branleuse · 27/10/2018 23:53

It never failed to leave me with just thick outline but lipstick worn off in the middle

stopdropandroll · 28/10/2018 00:03

i use it and have it on right now! i get it in primark. feedback would be that it stings like hell if your lips are cracked, and you really should wipe the brush before putting it back in the bottle - otherwise the liquid gets tinted and doesn’t go on clear over pale lipsticks.

@TheCraicDealer thank you for my new favourite site! I didn't know about Temptalia before. Exorcist looks like a good colour. I also like the look of the Nars Powermattes so they're on the list.

@snapnfarter I hadn't heard of Jeffree Starr sobthsnks for that - wifey is probably the closest but maybe a bit browny, but they're definitely on my lipsticks-for-going-out list!

@userofthiswebsite thanks for the YSL recommendation - maybe a stain is a better idea. I'm going to try s couple of these.

I used to have a massive makeup addiction which I've got under control in the last few years but I feel it slipping again...

Wow I used to use Lipcote as a teenager and early 20s I think. I didn’t know you could still get it.
