Have shitty nails so went in to get them sorted. SAlon had good reviews. Only one person doing it though and there was a language barrier.

I took a photo in as wanted a subtle finish but ended up with this......

CAn I paint over it to achieve the First look? If so what would you recommend?

Unfortunately I don't think you will be able to successfully paint over them as that looks like gel polish, and the finish will be really uneven if you paint regular polish over the top. Can you go back and complain?

GinAndTings · 16/10/2018 14:00

You can buff the gel top coat off and paint normal polish on.

The fist picture looks like they have ombre gel. The seccond picture looks like they're put white tips on you and then just put acrylic on top. Not the same thing. You could try and buff them down and then apply a white coat (preferably American not white white) and try and do it yourself but honestly I think you need to go back.

You need a salon with no language barrier.

Thanks everyone -will be popping back tomorrow.

You have much shorter nail beds than the example pic so they wouldn’t look like the example pic even if they hadn’t put the white tips on. Unfortunately they have left the white tips too long which means they look unnatural. You could sort it by filing the length down by half.

GinAndTings · 16/10/2018 15:46

They have put white tips on and covered with clear acrylic. Not the ombre look you asked for at all.

They would've cured the gel top coat - just file/buff it off and paint your nails. I wouldn't bother going back as they will just pretend they cant understand you.

Did they whack out the crisp and dry for cuticle oil too?

I clearly have much to learn re this nails business 🙄😄

My nail beds aren’t that short - she just stuck the tips on high ! Maybe when they grow out they will look better.

Am going to try and file them down shorter. How can you get them off if all else fails?

Yes she did chuck some random oil on them.....and it sort of dripped then she squirted moisturiser at them. I just washed it off.

Very strange. This salon had loads of good reviews as well!!

Gin (boy do I need one) that is EXACTLY what they did.

If you want them off, you need to soak them in acetone for a while to get them off.
If they are gel polish over the acrylics, you can just paint on top of them with a normal varnish.
I think you will have to quite dark to cover the white tip though.
