I already have a suit for DS but no idea what sort of tie is appropriate, can anyone advise me please? Plain colour, ordinary? I believe there is only one other little boy taking it with him and I didn't think to ask his Mum. (I should have paid attention when DDs took theirs!)I'd be very grateful for advice.

freudo · 14/06/2007 11:47

if theres just one other lad - maybe nice to ask the other kids mum

DragonFaerie · 14/06/2007 11:51

Thanks Freudo. I googled it the other day and saw white and bought one but then had a panic. I wish I had asked other lady on Sunday . It's this week so won't see her before.

I would have thought just something plain and simple to match his suit?
Most boys at dd 1st com last week were pretty casual so don't stress it.

Greensleeves · 14/06/2007 12:37

sackcloth and ashes?

DragonFaerie · 14/06/2007 12:37

Thanks, don't really know why I'm getting my knickers in a knot aboiut it tbh...

It will be fine, really, and over before you know it and wondered why all the fuss! More importantly - have you an outfit sorted????

DragonFaerie · 14/06/2007 12:48

No....Oh cr*p!

I should imagine the red tie is to symbolise the sacred heart. The last communion I went to, none of the kids wore the same thing, some of the girls were just in white shift dresses, some had all out bloody wedding dresses on! Some boys had proper black tie suits and some had casual suits. One even had a dickie bow ffs!

Don't worry too much, what they wear ain't the big deal. The poor kid has to worry about eating Jesus for crying out loud! I doubt the colour of his tie will bother him too much.

DragonFaerie · 14/06/2007 12:55

LOL rhubarb! If his catechists have put it that way no wonder he's so nervous!!

Sometimes if they make their 1st Communion with the whole class, they wear the school tie. But otherwise just get something to go with the suit... don't think it matters too much about the colour - I would probably go for grey myself....

Ds made his Communion last week, and wore a navy linen suit with a collarless shirt and no tie. He was by no means the only one without a tie.

Red ties are trad, but actually I didn't see any of the 30+ boys in his year wearing red ties.

I figure the aim is for them to look like they've made an effort, anything else is up to your taste.

PartyClown · 14/06/2007 13:44

Any tie that matches the jacket and tie will do.

DragonFaerie · 14/06/2007 14:11

Mrs Badger, are you about? Can you find me a tie to go with DS's suit ?
