Can this short portly size 14 go to the ball?

DH and I have been given tickets to a Day of the Dead themed Halloween ball at a 5* hotel and can get babysitters, hurrah!

What to wear? The info online says 'dress to impress or dare to scare' so I'm guessing either ball gown, cocktail dress or actual Halloween costume. I have several cocktail dresses none of which fit post 2 c-sections

If you were a short sz 14 with a big tummy what would you wear? Millions of black dresses online but models are so a) young and b) tiny it's impossible to imagine myself in them.
I'm 36 but feel older at the moment!

Hi i am same size as you and last year I borrowed a dress from a friend for a Halloween party. It was crepe, quite short above the knee, slim fitting but not clingy with long flute sleeves like morticia(but not quite as long). I got some spider web fishnets which were subtle but a nod to the Halloween theme. All in all I felt quite nice, without being in fancy dress.
