My first Christmas party as the Managers wife. I really need some help with choosing an outfit please.

I’m not very good at socialising at the best of times but really bad with large groups of people that I don’t know.

I’m taking medication for depression and I hope to have that under more control by December and I need to find my confidence, I think the right outfit would really help.

Total budget round £200, I have a nice black clutch bag already.

I’m thinking something all in one, I have a muffin top and I’m an A cup so nothing boobie (I’m really self conscious about my small chest)

I’m don’t like my legs so best to keep these covered up. I wish I had the confidence to wear a nice dress but I don’t so maybe a playsuit?

It’s an evening in a hotel, meal & then a disco (can’t think of anything worse right now!)

I’m a size 10, 5ft 5” but nothing is toned and I’m a pasty skin tone.

If anyone has the time to try and point me in the right direction to help me find something amazing to wear I’d really appreciate it.

Maybe a jumpsuit or tuxedo trousers with heels and a blazer? Sounds like you have a nice figure, it's probably just the depression ruining your confidence.

KimoraLee · 04/10/2018 21:27

Playsuits are usually short, did you mean jumpsuit OP?

Casmama · 04/10/2018 21:29

I always find phase eight pretty good for jumpsuits. here

You do seem very critical of yourself which I know might be due to the way you’re feeling but I’m sure everyone else will see the positives so maybe you could try thinking of them yourself. I hope that doesn’t sound trite.

DailyMailDontStealMyThread · 04/10/2018 21:30

Thanks for the reply Ark I’ve never had much confidence but now I’m over 40, 8 just wish I could have a fuller figure.

Tux trousers are something I’ve never thought about before although I wear a lot of trousers and blazer outfits for work, I’d like to dress up a bit.

I'd like to say the fact you are thinking about this party and what to wear is already proof that you're well on your way to beating the big D Smile.

Nettletheelf · 04/10/2018 21:37

What difference does being the manager’s wife make? Are you worried that you need to look smarter than everybody else? Don’t.

nooddsocksforme · 04/10/2018 21:39

Or this jumpsuit .

DailyMailDontStealMyThread · 04/10/2018 21:39

Ha ha best not turn up in a playsuit then, not the look I’m going for Grin

I could wear tights with dress to cover my pale wobbly legs couldn’t I?
although my not great on really high heels.

I appreciate I really should go shopping and try things on but I’m so tired with this new medication, the thought of shopping with crowds of people - no thank you, I’d rather attend in my PJs.

Jjbay · 04/10/2018 21:45

Things like this can look lovely if your trying to hide things... I’m sure you don’t need to but if it makes you feel comfortable high neck and/or layers with a nice pair of skinny’s and heels

My first Christmas party as the Managers wife. I really need some help with choosing an outfit please.
travailtotravel · 04/10/2018 21:49

Can you face a try on session? Order a load of stuff to home and send it back so you don't have to face shopping etc? Try a load of stuff on lije dresses etc you might not normally try.

DailyMailDontStealMyThread · 04/10/2018 21:50

Nettle not smarter than anyone else I guess I worry because I didn’t show up last year. Everyone must know each other and their partners where I know no one... I’m over thinking it , you are right, it makes no difference if I’m the managers wife or not.

I like the jumpsuit noodd

I guess so Kimora fingers crossed! I’d love to wear a lbd again one day.

What sort of shape are you on the bottom?
Are you more of a pear shape?
If your chest is small I’m guessing your waist is probably quite small too?

terriblyangryattimes · 04/10/2018 21:52

What about a nice dress with tights and low heeled ankle boots? Something with subtle detailing... OR a plain dress with leopard print or similar boots?

Oliphantintheroom · 04/10/2018 21:54

How about this, it would probably sit a bit lower on the legs for you (models always a bit taller) so you would only show a little bit of leg (I use gradual self tan when I need to wear a dress, apply morning before the big night)

BreakHerOffAKitKat · 04/10/2018 22:00

Something like this? Covered up but not

My first Christmas party as the Managers wife. I really need some help with choosing an outfit please.
DailyMailDontStealMyThread · 04/10/2018 22:01

I do have a small waist but the AD meds are making me eat loads , I have an over hang that I’ve never had before. I really should exercise!

Talking about meds, I’ve took mine a while ago so I need to go to bed. Thanks for helping and I’ll post again with my findings...

Oliphantintheroom · 04/10/2018 22:20

Sorry I should have clarified I asked about your waist to determine what sort of cut dress would suit you.
With a small waist you can Wear something that nips in at that area and then flows out and flatters your stomach area (I am the same shape as you, so it’s tried and tested Wink)

A few jumpsuits on Hotsquash

OlennasWimple · 04/10/2018 23:08

What colours do you like? What lifts your spirits?

OlennasWimple · 04/10/2018 23:09

Sorry, I didn't mean my question to sound crass. I meant that lots of people have a colour that makes them smile, even when life is being pretty shit. (For me, it's orange, so even though I don't look great in it, if I want to give myself a bit of a lift I wear something with a flash of orange in it and feel better for it)

BertBox · 05/10/2018 00:23

It sounds like you have a lovely figure, and you're tall enough for a long dress without it swamping you.
Would this suit you? Should be nice on a smaller bust (I have the complete opposite - would gladly swap!)

I know it'll be out of your comfort zone but book a personal shopper session at John Lewis.
2hrs and I guarantee you will get something. It's private, you don't have to fight the crowds and you could even take a friend /DH with you. It's honestly a lovely experience and they will find something that suits you.

Oliphantintheroom · 05/10/2018 10:31

That dress from phase eight is gorgeous! Definitely the right level of glam
