what to wear to a drinks party?

I don't go out much, and hardly ever to parties. What does one wear to a drinks party in someone's home? It's this weekend so I need to be able to do next day delivery...
Not sure what my style is but i like Jigsaw, Mint Velvet and Anthropologie. I'm 5 foot 3, mid 40s and not as slim as i'd like!

I'd probably wear an understated dress with tights and ankle boots or a longish sleeve blouse tucked into trousers - all with some good jewellery and hair. Do you know the host and what they are likely to wear?
