Nail polish looks so much darker on than in bottle . :(

Bought Essie Angora Sweater which looks a deep pink/ purple in bottle and I also looked at loads of images online before I bought it.

On my hands it looks really dark like a dark maroon- nothing like in the bottle.

Any ideas why?

I often find nail polish looks very different on. One reason is that in the bottle you're looking at it through a layer of glass, and with some polishes this affects the colour. I can sometimes get it closer to the right colour by using a clear topcoat, eg Barry M "Plumpy". Also, if I have my heart set on a polish I've seen (I love nail polish!), I always Google image search it, that way you will see loads of pics of it on and get an idea for how it will really look.

I spent hours googling image of it and on the whole it looks lighter in those pics.

You might not want to give Essie any more of your cash but maybe Mauve-tivation might be more what you wanted?

Have you tried the topcoat thing?
