I don't have the legs for a miniskirt...

...isn't a phrase I've heard anyone use in a long time.

To explain myself a bit better, I have always considered my fat, tree-trunk legs to be my worst feature and I've never worn short skirts or dresses in my life. I've never even owned a pair of shorts.

But I see women of all shapes and sizes wearing tiny little skirts in all weathers and situations, and nobody really seems to give a monkey's. So I just wonder if I'm being incredibly old-fashioned and if anybody except me cares about "having the legs" for a miniskirt! Should I just buy the cord skirt I've had my eye on and hang the fact that my thighs are lumpy and covered in cellulite? It's not easy to find longer styles anyway, so I'd be making my shopping expeditions a lot simpler...

If you fancy one, go for it!

Go for it! I have tree trunks too and have finally realised that nobody gives a monkey’s about other people’s legs. I often see similarly- proportioned women to me in skinny jeans and shorter skirts.

Argh... I've been conditioned by years of growing up with a hyper critical mother who points out women in the street wearing what she thinks are too-short skirts. When I try anything like that on, I hear her voice in my head telling me what a state I look. It's a difficult thing to overcome.

Whack a pair of opaque tights on. No-one cares honestly. You can get some 'control' type tights if it'll help you feel better.

Buy the skirt!

Are you me?

I didn't wear skirts for years after my ex told me I had legs like trees trunks. This year I wore shorts that stopped mid thigh Shock.

Part of me thinks yes, there are outfits / styles which are more or less flattering to some people / shapes / sizes. But are there ..... or is that just me believing the fashion magazines etc

Recently I've realised I prefer dresses, looser jersey style, with thick tights for work .... rather than trousers & top. I accessorise them, I wear lovely boots. I love it. No-ones died.

So, yes - go and buy the cord skirt. Wear chunky tights .... I am plucking up the courage to wear burgundy tights tomorrow. Accessorise your way .... heels or flats, chunky or dainty.
