Who is actively wearing flares/wide legs right now? For casual

I WFH and have small children. I need a whole new batch of trousers/jeans. I'm petite and prefer a high waist. I'm torn on shape but have narrowed it down to:

  • 1 pair topshop Jamie skinnies or similar (asos Ridley etc)
  • 1 pair topshop Jamie flares
  • 1 pair joggers, pref. Dark grey
  • 1 pair wide legged trousers

Just not sure if the wide legs and flares will get work or will I keep reaching for skinnies and joggers? I would wear joggers all day every day if I could but sometimes they just look scruffy. What trousers are you people wearing outside of office wear? Any links gratefully received, TIA.

Today I'm wearing a pair of thin cord maroon flares from Next sale for the first time. They are high waisted, very comfy and I adore them! I've matched them with a fitted long sleeve t shirt and flip flops.
I was also talked into getting a pair of mustard jumbo cord cropped wide legs from Primary by dd1 and I adore them too. Those I wear with a less fitted shirt (also advised by dd1).

Good on you! Yes, so comfy. Just not sure if they're all that practical for drizzly climates...

They sound hideous but I bought kickflare leggings from ASOS. I feel like I am wearing my jammies but keep getting compliments on them at work. Could be an alternative to joggies?

MooPointCowsOpinion · 26/09/2018 20:43

I’ve got a black pair of flares from next that I wear almost daily, I feel so much better in them than skinnies, but I’ve alwas hated skinnies. Parsnip legs!

StepAwayFromTheEcclesCakes · 26/09/2018 21:48

just bought burnt orange pair and black pair of wide legged crop trousers from George at Asda, cheap but lovely for work. just having a bit of a problem matching up something to wear with the deep burnt orange colour. I am thinking navy?

dudsville · 26/09/2018 21:50

The most I'll stretch to is a straight leg or a loose fit.

PretzelPrincess · 26/09/2018 22:00

I need to update my wardrobe too. Anybody have links to the above styles? Also what type of footwear are you wearing with them? That's where I get lost.

Floisme · 27/09/2018 07:17

I've worn wide legs pretty much all summer. I like them wide and straight (as opposed to flared) and ankle length. I've no exact links but these Toast ones look very similar except mine are in a cotton twill rather then denim. I also have some from last year's Uniqlo U collection that are this shape but in a much heavier cotton canvass. (I'm not recommending these as I don't like the fabric but the shape is very similar).

I wear with brogues or plimsolls - not trainers as I don't like them but they would work too.

That said I'll be putting them away for the winter shortly as I've no intention of having cold ankles and I can't get them to work with boots.

Knee socks Wink

HalfStar · 27/09/2018 10:40

Do you know what Flo, I think you're right about wide legs for winter. I'm just not sure it's a goer really once the cold weather kicks in. I've tried with long socks but they fall down and wrinkle and annoy me when I'm carrying kids etc. I do really love the look for summer though with sandals.

I have a couple of wideleg jumpsuits that didn't get enough wear this summer. Going to experiment with wearing a Uniqlo knit over them and see how that looks, instead of spending yet more money on clothes I won't get enough wear of.

Going to sit on my hands a bit longer.

StepAway how about a v pale soft grey? Something slightly cropped or boxy that you can tuck in?

I always wore wide legs and flares when I was younger. I’d been saving a few pairs until I lost weight, and this year have lost 3 stone and now they fit! Except I just don’t wear them well anymore, they feel really heavy and flappy. So sad, they were/are nice jeans as well!

nickEcave · 27/09/2018 11:16

I'm petite (under 5 ft) and wide legs and flares only look good on me with high heels. In my early 20s I had some lovely dark denim flares which I wore with vintage 70s high heeled platform boots and they made my legs look they went on forever. Now I only wear flat shoes and any kind of wide legged trousers just don't work on my petite proportions.

newdocket · 27/09/2018 11:23

I've got some wide-legged cropped cord trousers from Uniqlo and I love them. They are as comfortable as pyjama trousers! I am thinking of getting more in different colours...

Lucked · 27/09/2018 11:37

i tried wearing sock boots under cropped trousers in the spring but they weren’t wide enough and the trousers didn’t sit well over the boot, some of the wider crops may work with boots though.

neveradullmoment99 · 27/09/2018 14:18

I am wearing black needlecord flare cords from Next from a good few years ago. Pairing them with funky pewter loafers and a camel bf jumper. I have other pairs. I have both the burgundy and navy. I have always loved flares.

neveradullmoment99 · 27/09/2018 14:19

Oh an I have 3 pairs of washed velvet wide legs. 2 from boden [burgundy and one brown] and a grey pair from Toast which are beautifully made.

neveradullmoment99 · 27/09/2018 14:19

All from years ago.

Pandsbear · 27/09/2018 16:53

I love mine, never stopped wearing them. I am not a skinnies person - I also think I veer into parsnip territory despite being petite and a short arse (5ft 3). Need to be high waisted or well shaped, not too slouchy around the waistband and straight wide leg. Wear with trainers and boots. Bought some excellent jeans from uniqlo this summer that were supposed to be cropped but on me are full length and I love them. Toast does similar styles, occasionally brands at ASOS have them.

Judydreamsofhorses · 27/09/2018 18:19

Me. I wear them with either brogues or trainers, and in winter wear crochet or fishnet tights underneath. I just got some lovely navy cord ones from Cos which I can’t wait to wear. I have, at a push, worn Chelsea boots with wide leg crops - you definitely need a proper “gap”,so I wore deep red crochet tights under black trousers/black boots.

Annasgirl · 27/09/2018 21:02

I’m petite and started wearing wide leg and flares this summer. Now have 1 pair khaki ankle length cotton, one navy full length crepe and one dark green - bought last week in Zara. Everyone tells me how fab I look and how stylish. Also feel so fab in them as I can move more freely. Wear them everywhere now and am off to buy another navy pair in Zara this weekend. I wear them with Stan Smiths but I’m sure they look great with heels - just find heels hard work after so many years as a SAHM

StepAwayFromTheEcclesCakes · 29/09/2018 13:14

HalfStar ooh yes, grey, I have grey thank you
