Please help me buy a A/W wardrobe with £800 budget

Stylish mums please help!

I have a budget of around £800 for an autumn/winter wardrobe. I'm a painfully frumpy SAHM and need some help finding staple pieces for the upcoming season. Can anyone help?

I need:

  • Casual but stylish coat for walking ddog and taking baby DD to playgroup and the park
  • casual ankle boots for walking ddog and running errands
  • a couple of casual shirts. Where do women buy shirts from these days?
  • are hats still trendy?
  • scarf
  • one or two trendy knits
  • a faux fur gilet
  • are ponchos still en vogue?

Thank you!

Oasis is my go to for shirts, lovely prints and I always get lots of compliments when I wear them.

I love a Joules coat, they are quality and if you have a google you can often find a handy discount code, they also have lovely scarves.

I think hats are still trendy, but I'm not a hat person, unfortunately, haven't found one that suited me yet.

Personally, I'd steer clear of a full faux fur gilet, maybe go for one with a detachable faux fur trim instead, it will carry you through the seasons too.

Not entirely sure on the poncho front, it is transporting me back in time to a period in my fashion history that I'd sooner forget, but that's not to say they aren't still en vogue - if you like it then go for it, when you are confident wearing something it's half the trick of looking good.

Enjoy treating yourself OP Smile

Thanks @PecanPastry ! I wonder if stylish beanies have overtaken hats, there seemed to be a lot of beanies with big baubles on the top last year. I don't know if that's still fashionable.

Will check out Oasis for shirts! Hadn't thought of them x

I recommend Uniqlo for shirts and knitwear.

These are my favourite ever ankle boots. I wore them to death last winter.

I'm going to say no on the poncho!

I have this in grey.

I knitwear from Reiss, Whistles and Jigsaw, all nice quality.

Agree with the poster above about Oasis, lots of nice things in there and also Joules for a coat for knocking about in. Last thing you want is to be holding a brolly whilst dog walking/playgroup/park and they have plenty that have hoods.

I am not a hat person either I’m afraid so cannot comment on that front.

TK Maxx are good for scarves.

I suppose you need to pick some sort of colour theme.
Then with a budget of £800 and that list, I would buy lovely fabrics.

Cashmere jumper, Pure collection, or Uniqlo. & othe stories is good for jumpers too, possibly more fashiony. Cos is good for knitwear too, but it depends on whether the cut suits you.
Cotton or silk shirts, Cos is a good place for these, but again it depends if they suit you. &other stories do nice silk ones in here. I like their silk shirts. like these or this is quite nice, but they have plenty.
Coat is more difficult - depends on your needs but North Face Arctic Parka is good and warm. Another poster linked some wool Jaeger ones here recently, if you need to add a smart coat.
Cos do cashmere beanies and nice scarves here

I haven't looked for boots yet this year but I did see these but being suede, they're not much use to you.

I am no use to you on the faux fur gilet.

Here I am again. A little addendum.

Re the poncho, is this too bed jackety? I think it might be bed-jackety. Still. I imagine it would be cosy. In bed anyway. You could receive guests in your bedroom, while looking respectable wearing it. Grin

Thank you for all your lovely suggestions!

There's an & Other Stories very close to wear I live but I've never actually been in there - definitely have to pop in over the weekend but @championquartz the poncho you linked might well be a bit too bed-jackety Grin. I'm definitely not stylish or trendy enough to pull that look off.

@PUGaLUGS that Jigsaw poncho is exactly the type of thing I'm looking for!

I had never heard of & Other Stories, thanks @championquartz I will definitely be ordering things from there Grin

@TinySalmon glad to be of service!

My DS’s are grown up now but I do have a dog to walk, my winter coat is a parka by Puffa. It has a huge hood so keeps my hair all nice and dry if it is raining before work.
