What sort of length and style should I be looking at? Ones to wear with flats not posh 'dress' shorts. Thanks all those budding trinny and susannah's!! Oh..also any great knicker experts out there? Not thongs or boy shorts but no VPL's!!

what would you say if it was suggested that pears should consider all possible summer legwear alternatives (skirts, wide leg linen trews, cropped trousers) before even thinking about shorts, esp with flats?

I am (when not pg) generally young and svelte but am under no illusions re my peary arse and hence do not touch shorts with a v long pole.

Wot badger said. I might wear cutoffs on the beach if it was a very hot day. Otherwise skirts fine, shorts not imo.

MrsBadger · 08/06/2007 22:49

oh, meant to say I am v happy in cropped trous and a-line skirts an inch or two above the knee, the latter being the single most flattering thing for my arse in my entire wardrobe.

luckylady74 · 08/06/2007 22:54

my arse is 2 sizes bigger than my top half and it's cropped linen trews or at a push cutoffs with a thick turn up to make the leg look smaller. in my teens when i last wore shorts - ie i was a slim pear - the more heavy duty material the better - i used to cut up old jeans - material that keeps the bottem in check!

BishyBarneyBee · 08/06/2007 23:37

what badger said - get a skirt.

newgirl · 09/06/2007 19:42

no shorts

only skirts i'm afraid

unless you are an american tourist then go for khaki pleats

NotQuiteCockney · 09/06/2007 19:45

I get chafing with shorts.

I have one pair of shorts that (I think) actually suit me - they're denim, and below-knee, a bit.

NotQuiteCockney · 09/06/2007 19:45

Chafing with skirts I meant to say.

winniewoo · 09/06/2007 20:22

Thanks girls! Know what you mean..I already live in cropped linen trousers and a-line skirts which are of course flattering for the big backside shape! Just booked a beach uk holiday and running around after 3 boys under the age of 5 I wondered if shorts a bit more practical ( although I DO HATE THEM!) and perhaps there might have been a shape suitable but alas...I shall stick to skirts although all mine are semi decent and would get wrecked down on the sand!! Any suggestions for basic beach skirt? Thanks.

H&M sometimes do basic linen A-line skirts, good for holidays (and cheap)

winniewoo · 09/06/2007 21:16

Thanks Slim..problem is I'm miles from the shops..anything online??

Some people just can't wear shorts , I am one of them.

newgirl · 10/06/2007 20:29

saw a girl at supermarket today who had denim 3/4 jeans - she was quite large and the trouser/short things looked quite nice so maybe not all is lost for mum on the beach look. they finished just below knee and were dark denim, loose-ish

might be worth trying on something like that
