Can I get away with these shoes with this dress?

I'm going to a work do Friday night. I've got a dress, which I'm really happy with. However I'm lacking suitable shoes. Will these be ok do you think? Or do I need something a bit more glam? I'd really prefer not to buy new ones unless I absolutely have to. What do you think?

I really like the dress but personally if it was me I'd dress it up abit with some heels ( doesn't have to be expensive) and maybe a clutch bag, and curls,I'm not really a jewellery person, and not a massive make up person so I really have to make an effort with everything else lol ... Hope this helps and most importantly Enjoy! Smile

I think they are fine. I would be more inclined to wear boots. But I like boots!

SleepingInYourFlowerbed · 12/09/2018 18:45

What kind of event is it? They're ok shoes but quite 'work'-like. That may or may not matter on a work do!

Great dress! The shoes will look fine. I would personally go for a court shoe as they would make your legs look longer, the bar on the Mary Jane style often isn’t the most flattering. But there isn’t anything wrong with them, they’re a little dull but I wouldn’t look twice at you wearing them or anything.

I think they look lovely. As someone who never wears heels because heels hate me (literally can not wear heels at all, even wore ballet flats on my wedding day), I think flat or flattish shoes can go with anything.

Thanks everyone. Pretty much sums up what I was thinking - they're passable, but something a bit more glam would look better. Think I'll have a quick trip into town tomorrow and see if I can find something 'glam but cheap'! Good to know they're not horrendous though and will do if I can't find anything go

New Look are pretty good for "glam but cheap" shoes, lots are stupidly high though.

Layoverlife · 12/09/2018 19:34

Primark is good to ive had plenty of last minute shoes from there which have lasted me a long time

fiorentina · 12/09/2018 21:02

I second New Look for glam but cheap. And surprisingly comfy!

Betty777 · 12/09/2018 21:07

Without wanting to be rude - the dress is sweet, but the shoes are frumpy and look like something a middle aged teacher might wear. And black shoes really shorten the leg (usually)
If you aren't keen on heels - and i'm not either - you would be better with a glamorous flat. Anything not too rounded at the toe - so pointed or almond shaped, will make your legs look longer. And as flats are cheaper you can afford to get something nicer. Plus you will probably get lots more opportunities to wear them.
Even Manolo Blank admitted when interviewed that some women just look better in flats y'know :-)
