Black dress/Brown jacket

I have just bought a black sleeveless t-shirt dress for work. I am a teacher. I teamed it with a brown jacket. My dh said that it was a serious fashion faux pas. Is this true? I am not good at this sort of thing!

it is dark brown jacket. Was going to just wear black shoes. Husband says it is not just the colour it is the style of the two items that dont go. never knew he was a style guru!
