Saw these in office today. I'm really unsure about them - , on the one hand I love them,on the other, I think they're too clompy. Help me decide!

Also, does anyone know where might do these shoes but in a navy colour? I'm not sure if the black makes them look too school shoe!

Show us the pinafore. Am intrigued.

Bombardier25966 · 31/08/2018 18:55

I get the look you're aiming for, but I think you'd be crossing the line into overgrown child.

I do like them, but they're best left at the school gate.

TroubledLichen · 31/08/2018 18:56

I get what you’re going for but I still can’t shake the ugly school shoes association. The style would probably work better if they weren’t black (less school like). Do they come in other colours?

Itchytights · 31/08/2018 18:57

Nope but then If you have dainty feet ( as in size 3/4) you may just get away with them. If you’re a size 9 plus, they’ll look ridiculous.

andpeggy1 · 31/08/2018 18:58

They're like hideous school shoes! It's a no from me!

Handbaghag · 31/08/2018 19:00

Disagree with others. Would totally wear your outfit and shoes. I'm 46 and I have lots of shoes like this. I love them. You do have to be careful what you pair them with. Very doc Marten esque but Navy is difficult to get in this style. This style look sharp, but Pavers Hotter do similar that look old lady ish. Clarks are a good bet. Try looking on eBay for Clarks flat Mary Jane's, buy for a fraction, try them out and then resell if you don't like them. An alternative is one with a wedge.

Haha I had similar special shoes like this at school, got the total p taken out of me.

I do like these they wouldn't suit me mind you

Ellapaella · 31/08/2018 19:16

They're not for me but then I'm a bit conservative in my tastes and not very 'on trend'.

G5000 · 31/08/2018 19:27

Wow I've seen some ugly shoes but those are..special.

Tartyflette · 31/08/2018 19:29

I definitely had a pair almost identical to those, but in brown leather (Clarks) for school in the late 60s. Worn with White ankle socks or grey knee socks. Just one of the many weird aspects of 60s school uniform. EG - socks only, no tights, to be worn until 3rd year / Upper Fourth as we called it. (Now yr 9 I think) . Skirts to be no shorter than two inches above the ground when kneeling. Confused
So - Nope, no way and no again.

Changedforpost · 31/08/2018 19:31

@water I'm nearly 30 and wear pinafores and converse. Would also wear those or doc boots with it.

DragonNoodleCake · 31/08/2018 19:31

Nope

Changedforpost · 31/08/2018 19:33

Also would wear a tulle skirt with converse a tee and leather jacket so I may not be the best fashion person to listen to. My rule is comfort and different :)

MargotLovedTom1 · 31/08/2018 19:38

If you can't have fun with your clothes in your 20s then when can you?! Who cares about daintiness/sophistication and all that shit. If you like them, get them. They'll look good with the clothes you've described.

User5trillion · 31/08/2018 19:39

I love them, might have to buy them. I had school shoes like that a zillion years ago. I love clumpy shoes but usually wear more dainty shoes that pinch and kill my feet. They would be perfect for work and nice with a pinafore dress.

Changedforpost · 31/08/2018 20:00

Is it wrong I would totally wear those shoes with ankle socks and a pinafore.

Changedforpost · 31/08/2018 20:03

Yes yes yes!!

Nettletheelf · 31/08/2018 20:59

I am confused. On the one hand you say that you want to look more sophisticated. On the other hand you are considering buying those bloody awful shoes. What are you putting on your feet at the moment???

WatercolourFlower · 31/08/2018 21:25

All I'm wearing at the moment are these grey nubuck boat/deck shoes I've had for ages and ages! I've also been wearing silver Superga, and I have silver Gizeh Birkenstocks for summer. Also havaiana flip flops!
In winter, all I seem to wear are my navy blue suede Chelsea boots. They are on their last legs, I will buy a replacement pair, but I want something different to wear throughout winter. All I wear in winter = boots

OP posts:
museumum · 31/08/2018 21:48

I like them. I’d wear them if I was 24.
Unfortunately I’m 41 and would not look cute in them. Go for it OP.

Nettletheelf · 31/08/2018 21:49

I get what you are saying, how about knee length boots or biker boots? Sophisticated, comfortable AND winter appropriate!

JynxaSmoochum · 31/08/2018 22:34

I could make them and OP's suggested look cute in my late 30s. It helps that I'm built like a 12 year old anyway. I smirk at the notion of being too old to wear fashion second time around Wink

I like them. For years I've struggled with comfy everyday shoes to go with skirts and dresses (can't do slip ons and so many styles bulk up too easily on small sizes when they scale down).

Growingboys · 31/08/2018 22:54

Awful awful shoes!

Would only suit someone with a pierced lip, black nail varnish, and an obsession with taxidermy.
