Hiya

I am after any advice you can give please ladies (in the absence of Gok from the Naked show...)

I am short - 5ft 2. 10 stone. Size 14-ish. Good legs, but high waist, coupled with big belly. Tops that don't cling to my tummy are way too wide for my shoulders (I have to buy size 18 tops to not cling). Smocks make me look pg. In fact, 3 people have asked if I am pg (dc3 is now 2!).

What should I wear? I am a trousers and tops sort of girl, but have real probs finding things to fit my proportions.

Are there any shops good for the short and stout???

I am getting fit, do pilates, but essentially my shape will still be the same. It is making me really sad , although my dp is great and says I look fab - is there a leer smiley?!

Fitted clothes in the right size hun, anything that is too baggy aekms you're tummy look even bigger, get some magic knickers and start crunching. I'll go and get my GOK book and see what he has to say about it.

Ooh, I didn't know Gok had a book!

I think my prob is that I have too many probs iykwim - I am high and short waisted, with a tummy, plus am short. Makes it difficult as the solution for just one of those things makes the others worse...

I can't possibly wear tight clothes though - I def look pg then!

Ta for your help - I look forward to hearing what the kind man says...

Ahhh....I'm 5'8 with a belly that looks 6months pregnant and a size 16, my problem is my shoulders are 18.5 inches wide...I can't find tops in my size that fits my shoulders...

SpacePuppy · 06/06/2007 15:44

katepol, on average you and me might be a perfect shape! sorry don't mean to offend!

Hoping Hideehi is coming back soon

Spacepuppy, I get what you mean. I would be prepared to just average myself out though iykwim!

Anyone else fancy helping out a sad weebil?

Ok Gok says

Boost you boobs, float over your tummy and skim hips and work your waist, legs and arms.
Dresses are your best friend as seperates focus on the very area you are trying to play down your midriff.
Empire line dresses are perfect, halternecks for evening wear.
You need midrise trousers, 2 finger widths under your belly button, avoid skinny styles, the bigger the belly the wider the leg to balance you out.
Jackets, 2 button single breasted avoid anything that ends at your waist.
Skirt, high waisted pencil skirts.
Tops, empire line cuts, a tailored top with a softly flaired peplum hem.wrap over styles and v necks.
Avoid longer t shirts that end mid thigh and three quater length sleeves.
Jeans darker denim, wear higher heels, straight leg boyish square cut jeans.

I'm a blooming combination of about 5 body shapes so am giving up and wearing a bin bag

Hideehi - thanks for this. Katepol described my body shape to a T (although my DH insists I'm 5ft 1.5 !! ). Will take Goks style tips and may even venture into a dress for a French wedding in August . Always feel 'safe' in trousers and huge tops to 'cover up' but at 41 hey this is who I am and time to 'dress accordingly' IFSWIM -thanks again.
