Putting a slate grey hair dye over undyed brunette greying hair...

Grown all my hair dye out and wanting my hair to grey naturally

Superdrug have some Colour Freedom grey dyes. If I chuck a dye over my hair, I know it won't miraculously dye the brunette grey, but will it put an even shade / ash grey tone over it all? Will it have noticeable root growth? Or am I better leaving it undyed?

Only about 20. / 25% grey and the on grey / thebrinette is a drab dishwater brown colour.

I'm seeking the miracle of moving it along and making it look less 'meh' but without any root regrowth!

It won't change your brunette hair but it'll make your white hair slate grey. Don't do it!

Don't do it. Use a purple toner and/or shampoo. It'll lighten the grey and ashen the brunette giving an even tone.

I asked my hairdresser about just abandoning the endless root touchups I have and just dyeing my hair grey, and she said it was a nightmare to do - basically you have to bleach the hair first. Which is a bugger - I'm happy at this stage to be grey - I just don't want the growing out bit of it.

Thank you: the firm, blunt and consistent replies of not dyeing are appreciated: will definitely stay away from the dye and look at the purple toner shampoo / conditioners available.

Saved me from a box kit Lego hair job there!
