Hi everyone, hoping you lovely people will be able to help me navigate the nightmare that is maternity formal wear. I am 4 months pregnant and am lucky to work somewhere that is very casual and so I don't need to buy lots of formal maternity work wear. So I've just bought a couple of pairs of dark maternity jeans and I've got a few second hand tops and over sized jumpers which I'm hoping will see me through most of autumn/winter.

However in October when I'm 6 months pregnant I will be going on a hen do and the wedding is then in December when I will be 8 months. The invite specifically states formal wear... I'm wondering if I can get away with just buying one nice maternity dress that will do me for the hen do, the wedding and then for the Xmas period/NYE? Or will my shape change too much? I was thinking maybe some sort of black wrap dress that I could then accessorise differently for the different events? I don't have loads of spare cash so was hoping to be economical! Thanks

...but would black not look right for a wedding? Or would it be ok because it isn't close to Xmas and I could do sparkly accessories etc?

What is your hair/eye/skin colour so we can get an idea of colours that may work.

I wouldnt go for black for a wedding but burgundy, green, a rich blue, those would wo rk across all occasions.

Re size/shape as long as your general clothing size remained the samw, maternity clothes are designed with give in e bump area so that bit grows with you.

dorothy perkins has some nice maternity dresses.

Thanks katescurious, I have shoulder length brown hair and green eyes. My skin in pretty pale and I have been looking horrendously tired throughout this pregnancy so far

I think I usually suit jewel sort of colours so those ideas might work. But then how would I vary the outfits? The same people will be at the hen do and the wedding so I don't want to look exactly the same (even though I'm sure no one else would remember). I thought with a black dress I could wear different shoes etc? But might be harder with other colours.

Before pregnancy I was a pear shape and at the moment I'm carrying big and all out the front but I expect that will have changed by October!
