Hi

PFB starting school in a few weeks and faffing around trying to find a coat. Started to look online at outdoor stores after seeing a few people recommend a 3 in 1 type coat.

Any suggestions which have been the best brand to purchase, I don't know if they are all much of a muchness or not?

Thanks!

Haven't got a three in one, but I got coats from Mountain Warehouse for my two and found them great. They wash and wear well and I found some of the brighter colours very useful to spot them in the playground!

We've always got one of the Mountain Warehouse 3 in 1 coats for DD. Last all year, pretty easy to look after. Good value in the sale. We buy 1 size up from her ususal clothes, they have plenty of room for a jumper underneath during the winter, & last right through until the next summer. Also the extra length is better for keeping her bum dry in the rain!

DD2 had a Peter Storm one from MW but doesn't look like they do it anymore. Shame, she needs a new one and it was fab.

They are all good brands, but depends what you want.
Water proof or warm coat.
A lot of so called waterproof jackets are either not waterproof , or if they are they are not breathable so you end up sweating inside.
Gortex is the go to breathable fabric, but can be expensive, there are cheaper versions.
I prefer the layer system and so have a Gortex shell jacket that can be folded up very small and only put on if raining.

Thanks for your responses so far!

AwdBovril - Was it that exact one I linked to above? Just noticed it’s water resistant not waterproof and wondered how you found it?

I’m ideally looking for navy if possible.

Muddy puddles do good, properly waterproof coats.
They usually have some of last seasons designs on sale for very reasonable prices.
The fleece lined ones are warm enough for my kids all winter, and they are cut baggy enough that there is room for an extra jumper , layers on freezing days.

Right, I've order the Mountain Warehouse one as I woke up this morning to an extra 20% off.

Will see what its like but hopefully fine enough. I'm overthinking this and need to get back to holiday prep Smile

BTW Rockbird, if you google Peter Storm 3 in 1, there are a few offers on Blacks with an extra 20% off code too.

We always have MW 3-in-1 waterproof. Being able to take fleece in and out means it lasts until end of spring. Also useful for skiing holidays too. Great value for money.

Shadow01 · 23/08/2018 09:23

Rockbird Peter Storm is a Millets brand so you won’t find it in Mountain Warehouse.

Oldraver · 23/08/2018 09:59

Whether you want the expense of a fully waterproof coat as well, depends on how you are going to use it. If you're tramping to school for half an hour in rain then would b worth it. So a showerproof one would be ok for school breaks and 5 mins and into the car

Rockbird · 23/08/2018 11:24

Sorry must have been millets then. We have both and they're next door to each other!

Everyonelovessparkles · 23/08/2018 16:20

Does any one know how long the MW ones are? Do they go past the bottom or ate they more waist length? I like a jacket for DD that a bit longer in length....thanks!

starfish8 · 23/08/2018 17:53

I’ve got one coming tomorrow hopefully so will let you know

My dc are reasonably tall and I usually go one size bigger to allow for jumpers, etc, and their MW jackets have always been bum length.

herecomesthsun · 23/08/2018 19:26

DS 10 likes the MW 3 in1s. We buy next size up and they go past his bum.

AwdBovril · 23/08/2018 20:41

OP - we usually get one like this www.mountainwarehouse.com/kids/jackets/kids-3-in-1-jackets/lightning-kids-3-in-1-jacket-p13476.aspx/navy/

DD wore it today, intermittent pouring rain on a trip out. It's a year old, pretty well used, & she stayed completely dry underneath.
