I don't think many people wear exclusively black 'mourning' clothes to lots of funerals these days. My dad (who seems to go to funerals as a hobby these days ) usually wears a normal grey suit but with a black tie, for instance. Last few I've been too I wore smart clothes that weren't black but not too bright either. If you have got black trews, maybe wear them with the kind of top you'd wear to work maybe?

I think a white shirt with dark coloured trousers or skirt would be fine.

I think understated/smart is more important than colour tbh

Otter · 04/06/2007 22:05

ok - i do have a nice white shirt...

agree. understated is key. nothing celebratory. smart clothes. no bright colours.

Beauregard · 04/06/2007 22:07

Agree with mercy.

Otter · 04/06/2007 22:11

white shirt seen as ok by all - not too bright?

Beauregard · 04/06/2007 22:15

Yes white is fine.

stressteddy · 04/06/2007 22:16

Don't worry - just be as smart as you can be. Being there is what matters

Do you have any long, flowy skirts (don't worry about colour)?

Otter · 04/06/2007 22:16

i do but only white???!!

Ceolas · 04/06/2007 22:18

I would go dark trousers or skirt with the white shirt.

Long, flowy white skirt with black t shirt?
Once you are sat down people will only see the black top
I think funerals are far more relaxed these days (even catholic ones!)
