I think it’s awful tbh.
And if you want honest opinions about age, then yes, you are too old for it.
It’s the American college look ( which comes & goes ) and aimed at younger people.

Well this thread is going well - safe-and--middle-aged and mutton all on the first page. Look call yourselves whatever names you like, crack on, but when you use ageist stereotypes and meat metaphors you're bringing all women into it.

Anyway thoughts on the jacket. I'm going to assume it's the 'bomber' word that set off alarm bells because I honestly can't see anything else. Bombers, trainers and hoodies are all things that were once part of a youth style. Once. But before you can lay claim to a youth style, you first have to create one for yourselves and this generation hasn't bothered. I think it's a shame but the bonus is that even the hippest of high street shops (and I don't think Boden has ever claimed to be that) have got some clothes that are perfectly wearable. At the moment, I see no need for any of us to worry.

Which doesn't mean we still suit the clothes we wore when we were young. You change. That jacket would have suited me when I was 20 with the body of a flagpole but in late middle age my arse has widened and my thighs have thickened. So now it would bypass my waist (which I like to show off while I still have one) and probably, because I'm short, finish smack in the middle of my thighs, drawing the eye to my widest point. So in that sense, I have grown too old for it. That doesn't mean every other woman has. As I'm always saying on here, we don't all look the same. If you want to post a bit more about your shape, best and worst features etc then we might be better able to advise.

SeaGlassHunter · 21/08/2018 07:41

My 50yo SIL shares clothes with my 17yo neice. Including a khaki bomber jacket as it happens. They look different too each other due to how they style things, but it doesn't look wrong - and why should it?

IveGotBillsTheyreMultiplying · 21/08/2018 07:53

How do people know where clothes are from and therefore whether they're 'shit' or not?

They're just bits of cloth, sewn together.

Boden has a range of clothes, cut different ways.

If I wear skinny jeans and a plain shirt from there do I look shit, whereas skinny jeans etc from somewhere deemed ok is fine?

Unless you've got the label hanging out, how would you tell?

IveGotBillsTheyreMultiplying · 21/08/2018 07:55

OP, if you like it, go for it. Whatever you wear, some will like it, some won't, 92% (approx) aren't looking.

Dancergirl · 21/08/2018 08:44

Also that jacket is a hideous middle-aged incarnation of what it should be

?? What do you mean, what 'should' it be?

Yes exactly gotbills I find with Boden you have to be selective, personally I don't go for loud prints but their plainer tops and knitwear can be great.

I don't get all this bitchiness on here Sad

Truly?

fishonabicycle · 21/08/2018 09:40

Try it on - if it makes you feel good - keep it x

FabulousTomatoes · 21/08/2018 09:51

I think what the poster means is that it’s trying to look hip and varsity in an Urban Outfitters nineties stylee but it has a distinct air of frump about it, which imo is unmistakably Boden. So no you aren’t too young for it. But imo if you’re going to dabble in the yoof trends you might be better off getting one like this:

FabulousTomatoes · 21/08/2018 09:52

I nearly bought that Nigella. Is it nice on?

NigellasGuest · 21/08/2018 10:20

Yes it's great, I've worn it twice. Still in the sale!

FabulousTomatoes · 21/08/2018 10:50

Thanks - will ponder. Do i really need another dress this season? 🤔

NigellasGuest · 21/08/2018 10:51

Tell yourself it's a transitional piece!

FabulousTomatoes · 21/08/2018 11:13

Oh yes, that old chestnut. Duly enabled!

NigellasGuest · 21/08/2018 11:46

Happy to oblige Wink

Yep this exactly ^

And OP, when you post a question on S&B asking for opinions of clothes what do you expect but people to give you their opinions?

PrimalLass · 21/08/2018 12:41

I like it. I wouldn't want the shitty quality Superdry one instead.

IhatetheArchers · 21/08/2018 12:46

I love S&B, someone could post a picture of them dressed as a Sunset Strip Hooker and ask if it was suitable for their sister's church wedding, and someone would say 'ooh, it's a bit frumpy'.

IwankaTramp · 21/08/2018 12:54

I think it is horrible- like something borrowed from an old chap.

Floisme · 21/08/2018 13:01

My current style is inspired by old men I saw on holiday in Italy - they were wearing immaculately cut suits and looked really cool.

Gruach · 21/08/2018 13:52

Flo ...

There’s nothing quite liked a well dressed old man, is there? (Other than a well dressed old woman, of course!)

Loving your work. ⭐️

tierraJ · 21/08/2018 20:28

Personally I don't like that particular jacket, I prefer biker jackets.

But at 46 you can wear all styles of jacket.
