DD (13) invited to a wedding. I'm stumped - can't find a dress for her. Help??

DD is 13 yo, we have a wedding in early October. I'm finding it difficult to get something for her. She's a tall 13yo, and a swimmer, so she has broad shoulders. Strawberry blond hair, blue eyes, creamy (as opposed to white white) skin. I know, it sounds like it should be easy but it isn't at all. Zara kids is my usual haunt but it's too small on the shoulders. She doesn't want anything too 'old' as she doesn't feel grown up enough. I've looked loads online but can't hit on anything.
Help!!

Although a dress is the obvious choice there seem to a lot of lovely jumpsuits around at the moment (wide legged as well as tapered leg).

If something was a bit strappy (to overcome the tight shoulders) she could wear a summer cardigan or pashmina wrap.

OhMyGodTheyKilledKenny · 13/08/2018 10:58

Hi&M jumpsuits for example here

championquartz · 13/08/2018 11:02

Thank you OhMyGod. You're right, there are some nice jumpsuits there. I'll browse them with her.

I'm finding this age difficult for clothes.

DD (also a swimmer) wore this to a Christening a couple of weeks ago. It was lovely on, the top has some stretch so was great for her broad shoulders. She's not normally a 'flowerly' girl but she loved this when she tried it on.

Not sure how the fit is but you cold try H&M

This? m2.hm.com/m/en_gb/productpage.0551717003.html

Or this?

(Looks like a relaxed fit so may work for her shoulders)

championquartz · 13/08/2018 11:42

Wilbur is that black or navy? Black just isn't right on her. But if navy, definitely worth a go!

Thanks Verbena, we have tried the lace dress. I thought it would be perfect but it isn't, and it's too short.

I like the second dress tho.

The Chichi dresses just aren't her. SHe looks best in a pair of skinnies and a boho-ish type top. Hard to move that to a wedding! Maybe a jumpsuit its the way to go.

I bought a play suit for a wedding for dd from select online. Dd also likes quiz (i find it a bit prom queenie).

justaweeone · 13/08/2018 12:11

Can't get links to work but new look had some navy jumpsuits that may be suitable

SillyLittleBiscuit · 13/08/2018 12:11

Separates might be the answer?

TheDishRanAwayWithTheSpoon · 13/08/2018 12:28

What about something like this?

At 13 I would try h and m, urban outfitters, topshop, Zara adult ranges. Yes some of it is quite grown up but they also do lots of great dresses for 13-15 year olds

auntyflonono · 13/08/2018 12:48

Hollister are good for this age group.

SnuggyBuggy · 13/08/2018 12:50

Would a boho type dress, leggings and smart boots work? Sort of a slightly more formal version of her normal casual wear.

championquartz · 13/08/2018 15:48

That's all really helpful, thank you all.

I'll show her the links and we'll have an online browse. She gets fed up v quickly irl shopping and trying on so I'll probably have to order and eek horror return . I have been keeping an eye on Zara, thought TRF might have something but (unlike me!) there's nothing jumping out at me. We have some time yet so fingers crossed.

I saw this Cos dress last night. This shape suits her, but what do you think? It's more than I wanted to spend. I'll keep looking. I'll look at jumpsuits tonight.

Monsoon having a sale. Any of these any good? here

squeaver · 13/08/2018 16:41

I second Hollister. My 13 yo is also tall and broad-backed. Holliste has nice dresses with elasticated backs.

She got this one for a big family party this summer.

And also has this one

championquartz · 13/08/2018 16:48

Forget the Cos one. It’s after getting the eye-roll response from dd1 and eyes-to-heaven from dd2. Tsk. Clearly I am clueless

There’s a Monsoon jumpsuit there she likes but it only goes up to 13 and that’s mostly too short for her. She has v long legs.

X-post squeaver.
Ooh the 2 Hollister ones get a ‘head nod’ and a ‘yeah’ (teenage speak for yeah they look great). When I’ve more time I’ll sit and look at Hollister.

Miss selfridge is good for that age. I definitely agree with a jumpsuit

petitdonkey · 13/08/2018 17:28

Another vote for Hollister - DD has had quite a bit from there this year. Also worth checking Jack Wills - if you have an outlet near you there are some bargains to be had. I got DD a special occasion dress from an outlet for £10 (reduced from over £100!!)
