Havent been to a lot though I will be going to one tomorrow, wary of wearing anything that isnt darker colours. If I need to shop I will go to our local Asda later.

For the last couple I've been to I wore a dark grey shift dress and black blazer to one and the other one I wore black trousers, cream blouse and the same black blazer.

Sadly been to a few over the last couple of years. Unless specifically told bright colours I have stuck to black or navy and chucked a patterned scarf in my bag and made a decision about wearing it when I got there, it’s difficult but I err on the side of caution.

At my Dad's funeral a few months ago (hottest day of the year) I wore my cropped black work trousers, black top and black brogues.

I was stressing about it, then I heard his words 'wear what you bloody like'! I boiled, at least I had an excuse to keep my sunglasses on Wink

It has been 6 years since the last time I was at one. I was planning to wear head to toe black though just wanted to check, is that still the correct etiquette?

I've been to a lot of funerals, I'm at the age now where it's no longer christening and wedding invites! I always wear black, I have a couple of black funeral dresses and I have a black wool coat, and a black Mac, so all seasons are covered. Just wear anything dark, grey, navy, brown, black, as long as it's dark and subdued.

Are your worried about going to Asda in your funeral clothes food shopping?

debbiet1980 · 12/08/2018 18:20

No I meant if I need anything to buy before the funeral I can always pop into Asda later as its 24 hours, that is what I was meaning.

I haven't been to a single funeral where black was required. Some wear it but they tend to be people who wear a lot of black normally. I just wear something dark, sober, reasonably smart and instantly forgettable. People are often in work clothes because they've either just come from the office or they're going back later.

I will be working nightshift before the funeral though can change before I get there if needbe.

Just didnt think it would be good turning up in my work clothes as it would look like I hadnt made too much effort. Maybe thinking too much about it and being silly.

Black or navy blue. Good luck.

SirVixofVixHall · 12/08/2018 19:28

Black, but dark grey is ok, you can wear a cream or white blouse, if it is under a jacket.
I don’t suit black but I’ve been to so many funerals in the last decade that I have two outfits I keep just for funeral wear.
