Getting a pixie cut. Pros and cons

Pixie cut yes or not?

I have been wanting to have it cut for ages but too scared to try it.
I'm mid 20s, oval/longish face shape, and what I think is a big nose.

Should I go for it?

Pleasing - any chance of a photo of your messy pixie with an undercut? I've had mine in a v short pixie for a few years now and am thinking of growing it a little bit into something along the lines you describe.

OP, I completely get the pixie itch! Nothing could have stopped me getting mine done either. I really like having short hair. Much easier to style for me - mine waves slightly randomly when it's longer so needed washing, drying and usually straightening every day when it was longer. I still wash it every day, but just muss it up a bit and stick a bit of wax in it.

I love mine when it’s cut right, but it hardly ever is. Definitely find a good hairdresser and stick with them, because there’s nowhere to hide with a bad short haircut. I’ve not been happy with mine for the past year or so since my old hairdresser left Sad but I don’t want to grow it out yet so will keep looking!

LoveBeingAMum555 · 11/08/2018 07:30

Agree you need a good hairdresser to stop a short haircut becoming a granny cut. Remember that there is no hiding behind your hair either so people can see your eye make up and eyebrows more easily. Not always a bad thing but very short hair is quite unforgiving when you get older.

I have never had hair that I can just get up and leave the house with and look ok. The worst length for me is mid length or bobs because it takes ages to style and its too short to put up. Pixie cuts are so easy and great to experiment with colours. The worst for me is that my hair always looked very much the same whether you are at work or going out somewhere special.

But yeah maybe everyone should try it even just once in their life! Just past the shoulders is right for me these days but I loved my pixie cut.

FlorenceLyons I must emphasise, this is not a picture of me! I'm about 20 years older with grey hair and approx 100x less pretty. But, this is pretty much the cut I have at the moment.

NO!!! I went for a graduated bob and the maintenance was unreal. Every morning I had to get up to wash my hair, blow dry it, straighten it and then try and make it so it doesn't end up everywhere in the rain and wind. I instantly missed putting my hair up. I can just about put it up now but I've still got short layers everywhere that I have to clip back. For a pixie cut, it would take a lot longer to grow out so think very carefully.

though I needed to dye it every 3 days when I used permenant dye ) and cut every 5 weeks

Dye it every 3 weeks not days Hmm it doesn't grow that fast .

Do it! Mine is mega short and sooo easy!! I went for a pixie then went shorter and now I do it myself with clippers all over on a number 8 then thin it out with thinning scissors. Easiest hair ever!!!

saganorenscarandcoat · 11/08/2018 12:11

This is me with my short hair (oh and a black and white filter 😬)

You look like Alex Polizzi! And that’s a compliment 😀

AmyRhodes · 11/08/2018 14:58

I loved my pixie cut for the couple of years I had it.

Pros:
Easy to do each day, just ruffle with a bit of product and go.
It's an actual style - I've never had more compliments not just for my hair, but for my overall "look"
You can dye it whatever colour you want because it'll grow out with brand new hair soon.

Cons:
Regular haircuts needed
Needs a slim face IMO to still look pretty/feminine

FlorenceLyons · 11/08/2018 17:17

I like that cut, Pleasing. These are three I'm toying with. The first is very like the one you posted, I think.

Meant to say, good luck OP! Let us know how you get on.

LoveBeingAMum555 · 12/08/2018 09:20

Right, I am not reading any more of this thread because those pictures are fab and it's making me want to rush out and make an appointment to have all my hair chopped off.

Hair doesn't have to be long and poker straight to look amazing, absolutely go for it if it's what you want.

Rufustheyawningreindeer · 12/08/2018 09:58

My hair was long and poker straight til i had it cut

Its shorter than dh now

Just didnt suit me long, which is a shame as the hair itself was stunning Grin

ConkerTriumphant · 12/08/2018 10:02

@littlechocolatechippies
Did you do it?!

CountFosco · 12/08/2018 11:12

We want a picture!

I have a very short pixie at the moment and have had various short styles for years. I love it super short. Morning routine is wash (washed my hair every day with long hair as well), quick towel dry, then spend, hmm, 5 secs running my fingers through to get it into shape (not sticking up!). Sometimes use a tiny bit of product if I'm feeling fancy.

I love short hair on others as well, think it looks much better than long hair in bad condition.

MsHomeSlice · 12/08/2018 11:54

i don't spend ages styling mine either, but I know not to get talked into short choppy layers....they do not suit my fine but heavy ish hair....it sticks up like some random dampened boy scout style.

I've an asymetric pixie..long front, teeny bit of undercut which is going to be more dramatic next time!

these pics were the ones i took in to show!
