Aaargh! Why won't any trousers fit me?!?!

I'm having a trouser dilemma - I accidentally put my dry clean only trousers in the washing machine and now they're about two inches too short! They were the only pair that actually fitted me properly - I'm having real trouble finding trousers that aren't either too big round the waist, too short or too tight round my arse/thighs! Does anyone know which shops/styles might be good for trousers to suit my shape (I want smartish ones for work) - I'm size 10, about 5'8", smallish waist but quite lardy thighs.

All trousers seem to be too big round the waist so I have to wear a belt which gathers them all in and gives me big bulges around my waist, but I can't fit into a smaller size because they won't go round my thighs!

If I can't find any this weekend I'll have to wear my jeans to work on monday!

I have the same trouser trouble, although I'm much shorter than you. Only thing I've ever bought from Boden, but they are really good.
I really want to know where other people get trousers like this, it drives me crazy trying on endless pairs of trousers that don't fit.

I have this exact problem! End up wearing a belt so they don't fall down which makes my middle look bulky/lumpy especially under fitted tops, as I am short in the middle it looks awful. If I buy a smaller size it is too tight on the hips. I need trousers that have generous proportions arse-wise but have nipped in waists. I guess one option would be to have some made for you or altered, but how much nicer to be able to buy off the shelf! I'm only 5'4 but even I find trousers flapping at half mast after a wash or two - very annoying!

I've got so miffed at this problem (and you are not alone), I'm only 5ft2 and I find on top of the aforementioned, too big round the waist thing, buying petite trouser means the end of the legs end up around my calves. Afraid I gave up and now make my own with the sewing machine.

Ah have thought about that but don't want to end up looking like my mother in law in home made polyster "slacks" - any tips re good patterns/fabris to avoid this?! I can sew, but am a bit sloppy re. technique!

So its not looking good for finding them in shops then?? I didn't think my shape was that unusual so its really frustrating!

Mrs m, I've used several different easy vogue patterns, betseyross does some v easy to follow patterns but they are from the states and delivery can take a while. Vogue do a really good book on basic sewing techniques, which even I can understand (bit dim emoticon). Thank you thursdaynext, would love to but really don't feel confident enough to do it for someone who is paying good money, iyswim. Am flattered you asked tho'. Ask around for a good local dressmaker but, be warned, once you've had a good pair of trousers made for you, you will not want to go back to buying them from shops, since I started making some bits for myself, I'm really aware of how badly made some clothes are.
