Hair "styles" for children?

DD (10) is asking if she can get her hair (currently a sort of chin length bob) cut REALLY short (like a pixie!). I can't think of a single girl at her school with v short hair but don't want that to stop her IF it looks okay and is easy to keep looking neat. Does anybody have/know any little girls with short hair? What sort of style do they have? Are they nightmare-ish to maintain? Do they get laughed at?!!!!!!!!

Any ideas much appreicated!

I would think aged 10 she can decide for herself and cope with the fallout

it would grow out to something more girly quite quickly if she didn't like it, I suppose

Let her get it out of her system while she's still this young - plenty of social recovery time IYSWIM - I did it at 16 and thought it looked ok. It's currently reached my brastrap level again though so it was just a phase.

When I was seven, I begged my mum to let me have all my hair cut off.
She let me.
I hated my hair for the next ten years, because every time I tried to grow it out it just became more huge so I cut it off and ended up back to square one.
If she's got thick hair, think very carefully, and don't let her have layers.
If I had a quid for every time a hairdresser has run her fingers hopelessly through my hair and sighed, 'well, you're going to have to let it grow before we can do anything with it."
I'm now 33 and I've finally achieved a bob without stupid layers wrecking it.
Hope this helps.

Thanks for the comments so far. She has very fine hair by the way.

What is her face shape like? I think you need quite 'pixie' features to get away with VERY short hair, otherwise your head can look a bit like a football. It can look stunning though.

She has quite a petite face, delicate nose and chin, huge eyes but quite a deep forehead.

She is really keen for it all to be chopped off - has nagged about it for months.

it sounds like she'd probably suit it. i wasn't allowed to grow my hair as a kid and now i can practically sit on it so it might be worth letting her have a go.

Does she start secondary school in Sep? If so, wait until then as she may change her mind once she's started. If not, do it, plenty of time to grow it if she hates it.

Ooh good points about hols and about secondary school. She's in Yr 5 now, so no prob there. I wonder if I could persuade her to wait until the summer holidays?

Does NOBODY's dd have short hair then? Dos anybody have links to pics by any chance, so if she does go ahead with it, we know what to ask for?
