What to wear with tapered trousers/ankle grazers in the colder weather?

I'm loving the trend for fitted tapered trousers/ankle grazers and wearing them for work with various flat shoes (loafers and ballet flats etc). The style suits me physically and I feel really good in it. I've lost a bit of weight and am just under 5'10 and a size 12/14, I'm a healthy weight but could do with maybe another stone off.

I'm early 50s and work in a normal office type environment, not suited and booted but generally smartish. So, i'd usually wear the trousers with a blouse/fitted cardi or plain fine sweater. Air conditioned so often colder indoors than out.

Normally I'd wear ankle boots with trousers and this is fine for the wider ones and it's what I would have worn in previous years, last winter i did have some of the narrower shorter trousers but it was a pain as they just wouldn't sit right.

What do you wear with them in the winter and still look smart? Brogues/loafers but with tights? I already find they ride up when I'm sitting so need to pull them down when I stand up so that's going to make it worse and because I'm tall, even with a longer length, they still sit a bit short which I think is fine with bare legs/feet but will look a bit mad with socks and boots.

Any suggestions?

No suggestions from me, I have the same problem. 😁
Hoping from inspiration from this thread.

Believe it or not I had just the same thought today! I've got 3 pairs of the M+S ones that I Love!
I'm 5' 2" size 16 so curvy would be the best way to describe me. I'm a teacher so am on my feet or on the floor all day!
Normally in winter I wear flattish ankle boots under trousers but they look daft with ankle grazers I think. I did think about pop socks and brogues?

I went geektactic last year (the kids assure me it's more hipster) and wore knee high tights and brogues with 7/8 trousers, blouse and either cardi or fine knit jumper for work last winter.
I liked it, and perfectly smart with woolen coat and scarf.

I love my brogues with tapered trousers. I’ve lost weight this year so I’m actually looking forward to wearing them with my new skinny legs!!!

I buy men’s ones because they tend to be wider (for my wide feet) and more hardwearing for less money

TheEmojiFormerlyKnownAsPrince · 04/08/2018 21:40

I wear socks in same colour as trousers, M and S mens socks.

TheEmojiFormerlyKnownAsPrince · 04/08/2018 21:41

Forgot to add, only with brogues or loafers. I don’t wear ballet pumps

WaxOnFeckOff · 04/08/2018 22:06

Ha, just saw a picture of brogues with fancy checked socks and was wondering if I could get away with that look.

Bezm I ordered a pair of the M&S ones and they were the most amazingly great fit - however, they were really shiny, So shiny that they looked like satin. I had to send them back :(.

You can wear ankle boots but they must be smart and have a heel. The boots have to make a statement so must be lovely. They also need a bit of rise to the ankle part of the boot. I think they look best if the ankle of the boot is fitted, not gaping.

I’ve never had a problem with tights! Try knee highs?

LellyMcKelly · 05/08/2018 08:34

A longish contrasting sock/ knee length pop sock type thing could look fabulous - burgundy, mustard, teal, dark green, to coordinate with your top.

AgathaTabithaBagatha · 05/08/2018 08:45

I aspire to this look once I’ve lost weight! Yes to ankle boots but with a heel, shoe boot type things. Popsocks under trousers, definitely, the knee high type.
In my dream size 12 life I shall wear them with a cashmere jumper as I will also be wealthy once I’m thin. Grin

Maybe the tights would be better than my legs then? I think my calves are maybe a bit chunky or my trousers a little slim as when I stand up I have to use my feet just to pull the opposite trouser leg back down. Definitely going to look at a chunkier loafer/brogue, try tights, look for some nice fine knit socks and try with my existing boots but suspect I might be in the hunt. I'm in Scotland and whilst in an average year we dont get a lot of ❄, we do get a lot of ☔.

I'm pretty skinny and I have to pull mine down too! I think it's just one of those things...
I totally agree with contrast tights or knee highs, and well fitting ankle boots (no gape, if possible) or brogues. Flats are fine and look more on trend I think. I think you could even stick to the ballet flats with the right tights/socks.
