Best nail strengthener? OPI has become messy to apply

My nails need some serious attention. Bit stressed lately and I have been nibbling at them. They are weak and I'm looking to buy something to help them grow stronger.

I have used Opi nail envy before and still have about a quarter of the bottle left. But when i try and apply it it goes all stringy and gloopy making it hard to apply evenly. It's not exactly cheap either so I'm wondering whether the expense is worth it or is there a cheaper option that works well.
Any recommendations please?

I have fantastic nails, very strong and touch wood never break. I'm a big believer in rubbing a little oil in every night. Cheap, takes seconds and really helps. Sorry I know it's not what you asked but I never use expensive nail treatments. Vitamin E oil if you're interested.

Thank you LuxuryWoman where do you buy that from?

Superdrug, £2.99 but olive oil from your kitchen would be fine or sweet almond oil is fantastic for nails and skin. Even a rich body lotion or hand cream until you get some oil. Just massage around the cuticle and nail bed. Only takes a few moments. This sounds crazy but tapping your fingertips on a table may also help. I think mine are so good because I write a lot so I'm constantly typing on the computer thus stimulating the fingertips and nails. They grow crazily fast!

Was about to say oil. Any oil. Or a smudge of lip balm in a push. :)

My nails have always been weak and would flake easily. I have given up on them BUT I started taking Perfectil vitamin tablets which covers skin, hair and nails (I take the Plus Skin Extra Support version as my skin needed the boost) and my nails have been transformed. They are so much stronger and longer than they have ever been.

Eat more gelatine to get stronger nails, also oily fish (salmon and tuna) and eggs. I also use Essie Grow Stronger base coat. Mine are nice and strong and I also write a lot, interesting theory!

I use Nailitiques Formula 2 but also have been making an effort with cuticle care which should improve overall nail strength. I think jojoba oil is supposed to be very good, I'm using a Nail Butter from the US at the moment but there's lots about.
