Is anyone doing maxi dresses this summer (if summer ever comes, of course...)?

Not. I am 5ft2" and would look stupid. Plus I saw a feature in a magazine and the model looked twice her actual sie in all the maxis she was modelling and it put me right off.

MamaG · 30/05/2007 16:49

not

NineUnlikelyTales · 30/05/2007 16:52

Stripey Next are doing a Maxi dress in their petite range so I guess some short people must want them. But I'm with you (also 5'2"), I think I would look excessively dumpy in one.

seamonster · 30/05/2007 16:53

I might as I do not tan, therefore I might save lives due to the reduction of the glare. It depends on whether I find one that I like, suits me and I can afford.
Long sleeves are a necessary evil for me as well.

Mudd · 30/05/2007 16:54

like the idea of being all covered up but saying that my arms are flabby and my legs are good so I ould be covering my best and displaying my worst.

In a word 'no'

Snaf · 30/05/2007 16:56

Hmm. Am pondering buying a lovely one I've seen. Am 5' 7", slim of arm, yet fat of arse, so thought it might work?

I did try one on in Primark that made me look like one of those dolls that old ladies put over loo rolls, however...but I think that was the material (maybe)

lol 'fat of arse'

Hideehi · 30/05/2007 20:09

I'm 5'9/10 ish and size 10 look awful in them too, goodness knows who they actually suit.

southeastastra · 30/05/2007 20:13

they sort of remind me of the 70s dresses we wore at parties. or the film Abigail's Party.

@ slim of arm, yet fat of arse

Ive got a maxi skirt that I wear with a vest top. I love it, but I agree they aren't good on short people. I'm nearly 6ft and pear shaped so they suit me.

I am fat of arm with a J-lo arse - (i.e. big. but the boys like it ) So i think that makes maxis a nono for me too.

hamma · 31/05/2007 14:48

is it just me or are clothes in shops at the moment really horriblke and unflattering -a ll those beleeding horrible swirly patterns I don't think do anyhting for anybody - they remind me of our old dining room curtains ...

Tigana · 31/05/2007 14:49

no...as they are not just long but also billowy...which makes for dumpiness effect.
Also will not be wearing the many quite nice dresses with smocking across chest as they flatten already minimal norkage down to a pre-teen level

Bensonbluebird · 31/05/2007 14:50

Southeastastra - I am still pained by the memory of my mum wearing a particularly lovely denim number with polka dots. History will not be repeating itself.

ktmoomoo · 31/05/2007 14:53

erm am i being stupid but wat is a maxi dress lol

Boco · 31/05/2007 14:57

I love this maxi dress, i want it.
i it's purty

Boco · 31/05/2007 14:58

ooh i stuttered. Actually they had a nicer one a couple of weeks ago but it's gone.

PinkTulips · 31/05/2007 15:01

i have flash backs to the 80's whenever i see these, my mom calls them sundresses and is a big fan.

not keen myself, am tall and think it would just be too much to be from boob to shin in floaty overly patterned material.

seamonster · 01/06/2007 10:12

I like the dress. I think that as I am pregnant I'm allowed to look dumpy, yes? And I would always wear a thin cardi over the top to protect my poor arms. And a big hat. And probably a vest under it as I have big ones and most are low cut.

NKF · 01/06/2007 10:14

I love them but no. I've tried several on and they don't suit me. As with all voluminious clothes, you have to be thin to look good in them.

lissie · 01/06/2007 10:16

no, am too short and skinny, would look like a toilet dolly.
